This is the new Mercedes-Benz GLS - facelifted for 2023 to attract premium SUV lease customers.
We’ve already seen recent updates for Mercedes-Benz’s compact GLA and medium-sized GLC and GLE SUVs.
And now it’s the turn of the full fat, seven-seat GLS, which sits near the very top of the firm’s range of SUVs between the GLE Coupe and the footballers’ favourite G-Class.
Like the GLC, the entire engine portfolio for a Mercedes-Benz GLS lease now boasts 48 volt mild-hybrid technology which works to lower CO2 emissions and improve efficiency.
There are some subtle visual enhancements for the GLS, including a ‘more striking’ silver radiator grille, new underguard, and fresh tail lights.
The cabin has also been uprated, with a glossy brown lime wood trim now coming as standard, alongside a 360‑degree camera that offers a ‘transparent bonnet’ function for when you’re taking the all-wheel drive GLS off-road.
The latest generation of Mercedes-Benz’ MBUX infotainment system now has three different moods to choose from - classic, sport and discreet - and there are seven different colour schemes that work in conjunction with the ambient lighting.
The super-sophisticated Mercedes-Maybach GLS (below) has also been treated to a facelift. It now enjoys a more sumptuous interior, complete with diamond-pattern quilting and a new steering wheel with touch controls on the spokes.
Meanwhile the performance version of the GLS - the potent Mercedes-AMG 63 4MATIC+ which packs a 4.0 litre V8 engine with power of 620 PS - arguably gets the most significant tweaks of the entire GLS trio.
The front end now features an AMG emblem instead of the Mercedes star, while there are also eye-catching red brake callipers.
Lease customers can now expect an electric panoramic sliding sunroof, heated and climatised front seats, Adaptive High Beam Assist and Smartphone Integration, and the latest generation of the AMG Performance steering wheel.
The active roll stabilisation software and air suspension of the Mercedes-AMG 63 4MATIC+ have been recalibrated to find a better balance between sporty handling and comfort.
A Mercedes spokesperson explains:
“Fine-tuning of the software for the configuration of ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), the electronically controlled rear-axle locking differential, the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and the suspension control system delivers a dynamic and superior driving experience.”
All three versions of the GLS will be made available at the end of October 2023.
Leasing a Mercedes-Benz GLS makes a great alternative to the seven-seat Audi Q7 or BMW X7.
