- Mazda MX-30 R-EV with poppy livery revealed
- Created by charity Mission Motorsport
- Will act as course car during the Race of Remembrance
- Built to recognise bravery of service personnel and their families
Mazda has unveiled a one-off MX-30 R-EV with a unique poppy livery to mark Remembrance - and it’s raising awareness for a very special charity.
Remembrance Sunday takes place on 10th November this year while Remembrance Day falls, as it does every year, on November 11th.
This weekend will see the annual ‘Race of Remembrance’ taking place at Anglesey Circuit, where a field of 57 teams will compete in an endurance contest spanning 12 hours and two days.
The event itself, now ten years old, is the brainchild of charity Mission Motorsport, which works to provide respite, rehabilitation, vocational training and support to veterans.
Mission Motorsport’s motto is to ‘Race Retrain Recover’ and it’s an astonishing charity that has helped countless wounded, injured and sick service leavers into employment since its founding in 2012.
The design you see here on the Mazda MX-30 R-EV was created by Mission Motorsport and the SUV will lead the field as the course car at the 2024 Race of Remembrance.
Mission Motorsport CEO James Cameron, said: “This MX-30 R-EV will be in use across the country in support of the Armed Forces Community and will have a particularly poignant role as the course car at the centre of the 10th running of the Race of Remembrance at Anglesey Race Track this weekend.”
The race itself will pause for reflection at 11.00am on Sunday when the cars will head to the pit lane for a Service of Remembrance.
While the Mazda MX-30 is also available as a fully-electric model, the one adorned with poppies here is the plug-in hybrid R-EV which uses a 830cc single-rotor petrol engine as a generator to power an electric motor - with no mechanical connection whatsoever between the engine and the wheels.
It’s an unusual set-up that gives the Mazda MX-30 R-EV a range of up to 53 miles using electricity alone as well as power of 170 hp.
Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “The poignant and stunning livery of this Mission Motorsport poppy car is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices and bravery of our service personnel and their families. I’m delighted that once again Mazda can play a small part in assisting Mission Motorsport to honour this with the Race of Remembrance and their fantastic ongoing work with service veterans.”
