Legendary Italian car manufacturer Lancia is being reinvigorated - and here’s a first look at the brand’s new car.
As most petrolheads will know, Lancia is responsible for creating some of the most iconic vehicles ever conceived, with the Delta Integrale and wedge-shaped Stratos dominating rallying circuits in the 70s and 80s.
Lancia was owned by Fiat from the late 1960s onwards but as time went on, interest in the marque dwindled.
By the mid 2010s, the only Lancia you could get was a rebadged Chrysler Ypsilon city car. And by 2020, you could only get a Lancia if you lived in Italy, with the manufacturer withdrawing from all other European markets.
It’s hard to see the situation any other way than a hefty fall from grace for Lancia.
But all that is about to change. The Stellantis Group that now owns Lancia - and also has brands like Abarth, Alfa Romeo and DS under its umbrella - is on a mission to lead Lancia to a new ‘Renaissance’ with a 10-year strategic plan.
Like lots of other manufacturers, Lancia is hedging its bets on an all-electric future - and the Lancia Concept you see is 100% battery-powered.
The angular rear-end and round tail light set-up has more than a whiff of the Lancia Stratos (below) about it, which should please purists.

There’s also a highly-distinctive circular panoramic glass roof and a front end that’s influenced by high fashion - which is all very Italian.
Meanwhile the new Lancia motto is ‘Pu+Ra’ - a mash-up of the words 'Pure' and 'Radical'.
Luca Napolitano, Lancia brand CEO, explains:
“The Lancia Concept is the brand manifesto for the next ten years. It is a 100% electric concept car which represents the evolution of the Lancia Pu+Ra Zero, the three-dimensional sculpture presented last November during the Lancia Design Day. The Concept is the first vehicle of Lancia’s new era that includes features which will be present on future models in terms of design, sustainability, technology and electrification.”
The Lancia Concept is set to be revealed in full later this month.
