Be careful it doesn’t have your eye out - because the new Lamborghini Lanzador is one razor-sharp bit of kit indeed.
The Lanzador is something of a landmark car - as it could be the first fully-electric vehicle ever to be served-up by the Italian firm. While it’s just a concept, for now, Lamborghini has strongly hinted that it may hit European roads by 2028.
So, what are we looking at here?
At its heart, the Lanzador is a four-seat grand tourer with an SUV-like raised ride height but which doesn’t lack any of Lamborghini’s aggression.
You might think of it as taking the best bits from both the Lamborghini Urus SUV as well as the new plug-in hybrid Revuelto supercar.
Lamborghini talks about the Lanzador being ‘versatile’ and ‘driveable daily’. But don’t mistake that terminology for Lambo being ‘sensible’.
An electric motor on each axle gives the all-wheel drive Lanzador a power output of ‘more than ‘one megawatt’. In today’s money, that’s around 1,360 PS. It’s colossal.
That’s more than DOUBLE the power on offer with the V8-engined Lamborghini Urus, and also almost twice the oomph of the most potent version of the Porsche Taycan.
It’s fair to say, then, that the Lanzador will be absolutely rapid whilst also ferrying you across continents in comfort. Rear-wheel steering and air suspension helps with the ride quality, too.
There’s no indication yet what electric range the Lanzador might enjoy, but it’ll surely be pushing 300-miles plus.
The interior of the Lanzador has been created to make the driver ‘feel like a pilot’. Huge expanses of glass enhance the feeling of being airborne.
Lamborghini’s Mitja Borkert says:
“For me, the Lamborghini Lanzador is to date our most visionary and futuristic concept car, as well as delivering stunning looks and a new kind of beauty. The proportions are new and unseen, with the potential to create an entirely new automotive segment. The Lanzador presents supers sports car volumes but with the pilot in a slightly higher position, echoing that of the Huracán Sterrato. It is designed for a new generation growing up in an era of high tech and digitalization, and demonstrates new and fresh ideas within Lamborghini in terms of our approach to authentically integrating sustainability, via an interior delivering more space and using innovative materials. The Lanzador is a brave and unexpected concept visualising a potential future Lamborghini model, with an emotional design and Lamborghini-performance approach to creating a true Ultra GT.”
There’s also a sophisticated ‘Intelligent Pilot’ system that allows you to set, precisely, just how much grip you want at the wheels, or how much you want them to spin.
And that, dear readers, means the Lanzador should drift with abandon on a race track. Fingers crossed it does make it to full production.
