Here’s the stunning new ‘Concept 20-23’ electric hot hatch from Nissan - and it could well preview the Micra of the future.
Last year Nissan announced the end of the current Micra as we know it, saying the petrol hatchback would be reborn as a fully electric model.
The traditionally-fuelled supermini has since been removed from the configurator on Nissan’s website - though you can still lease the outgoing model with Select, with prices from just £233 per month*.
But now Nissan has dropped jaws by unveiling this radical new concept hatch, which is inspired by both online racing and the firm’s participation in Formula E.
And the Concept 20-23 might just provide a glimpse of the next-gen Micra, which is due to launch next year.
The big, round friendly lights seen on the Concept 20-23 certainly match the teaser pics of the next Micra that Nissan released in 2022.
The car itself has been created to mark the 20th anniversary of the Nissan Design Europe (NDE) hub being located in London. It was designed by some of the NDE’s youngest members who were given a brief, ‘with no constraints’, to build a car ‘they would like to drive on the streets of the city where they work’.
The designers have gone with large wheels, bulging wheel arches, extended side skirts, a big spoiler at the rear, and a muscular profile in general.
Scissor doors give you access to the minimalist cabin, which has clearly been built for sporting performance, rather than sumptuous comfort.
A Nissan spokesperson adds: “The interior is a futuristic interpretation of a racing car’s bare functionality. with just a couple of screens displaying vital information with minimal distractions – a reflection of where real racing cars – such as Nissan’s Formula E entrant - inspire online racing simulator set-ups.”
As for the upcoming new Micra, Nissan has already revealed that it’ll share an electric platform with the all-new Renault 5 - with both firms part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.
We’ll bring you further news as and when we get it.
