Jaguar launches the Type 00 electric concept

  • Jaguar Type 00 revealed
  • Electric concept previews future production model
  • Could get 478-mile range
  • Jaguar says it’s a ‘fearless statement’ of future intent

Jaguar has dropped jaws by unveiling the Type 00 electric concept, an Art Deco fastback GT that’s sure to get the entire world talking.

When Jaguar says the Type 00 is ‘unexpected’, they’re not wrong.

The Type 00 is an angular slab of EV that’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. From any car maker.

Fans of the British firm need to forget everything they once knew about Jaguar as the manufacturer goes through a complete rebrand for the electric age.

Jaguar, presumably knowing full well how many feathers it’s ruffling, says the two-seat Type 00 is ‘Jaguar at its best’ and a ‘fearless statement’.

There’s a long bonnet, swooping roofline, huge 23-inch alloys, butterfly doors, a glassless rear tailgate and a panoramic roof. Hand-finished brass ingots ‘theatrically deploy’ to reveal rear‑facing cameras that remain hidden until needed.

Meanwhile boxy lines are present everywhere you look and the cabin is dominated by a huge brass spine that splits the seats.

Speaking of the interior, Jaguar has unveiled tech that’s straight out of a science fiction movie. Rather than tapping a touchscreen or punching a few buttons in order to set the ambience of the cabin, Jaguar instead wants you to utilise what it calls a ‘Prism’ case.

The Prism case sits behind a powered door on the car’s exterior. Inside it you’ll find three ‘totems’ made from either brass, travertine and alabaster.

The idea is that you take one of those totems out of the prism box and put it in the cabin’s centre console, and the car then automatically sets the mood - tailoring everything from the ambient lighting and screen graphics to the car’s scent in order to give you ‘unprecedented personalisation’.

We know what you’re thinking - ‘this is just a concept car and it’ll never see the light of day as it looks now’.

Well, you might need to think again.

Jaguar says the Type 00 previews a full production model that’ll arrive in 2025, albeit with four doors instead of the two that you see here. It has already been spied in testing and adopts a similar silhouette to what you see here.

There’s no official word on what powertrain the incoming car might utilise but, again, Jaguar has big plans when it comes to battery tech.

The four-door GT will have a ‘target’ driving range of up to 478 miles, while 200 miles of range could be added in as little as 15 minutes.

Constantino Segui Gilabert, Chief Exterior Designer, Jaguar, said: “Jaguar is no place for ordinary. When you see a new Jaguar for the first time, it must have a sense of awe, of never having been seen before. Type 00 commands attention, like all the best Jaguars of the past. It has a dramatic presence, channelling a unique spirit of British creativity and originality. It celebrates art and embodies the essence of Exuberant Modernism.”

Jaguar hopes cars like the Type 00 will create the same ‘sense of awe’ that surrounded iconic models like the E‑type. It's also going after the market's most premium players, including Porsche and Bentley.

We're fascinated to see what happens next. You can watch a video of Jaguar's official unveiling below.
