Say hello to the new Jaguar I-PACE 400 Sport - a UK-only model that has prowled straight to the top of the big cat’s line-up.
The I-PACE ‘tore up the rule book’, as Jaguar puts it, when it was launched back in 2018, blazing a trail for all other premium, all-electric vehicles that followed.
It’s an EV that has won umpteen awards, including the coveted ‘European Car of the Year’ prize in 2019.
Now Jaguar has treated the I-PACE to a mild facelift for 2023, giving it new exterior styling that includes a sleeker front end.
What powers the I-PACE, across all trim levels, remains the same as before - you get a 90 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, power of 400 PS and 696 Nm of torque.
That’s enough to accelerate the I-PACE from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds while you can also expect up to 292 miles from a single charge.
Rapid 100kW DC charging can also add 78 miles of range to the battery in just 15 minutes.
But perhaps the most headline-grabbing addition to the I-PACE range is the new 400 Sport derivative, described as a super-exclusive ‘Halo’ model by Jaguar.
With a price-tag that begins at £79,995 to purchase outright, it makes the I-PACE 400 Sport a rival to the more expensive trim levels of the Audi Q8 e-tron, as well as the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT.
The I-PACE 400 Sport boasts adaptive air suspension, a boot lid spoiler, 22 inch gloss black alloys, heated, slimline performance seats, and a sumptuous Ebony Windsor leather interior.
The other trim levels now up for grabs with the I-PACE are the base ‘R-Dynamic S’, followed by ‘R-Dynamic SE Black’, and ‘R-Dynamic HSE Black’.
So, what else is new?
Well, what’s immediately obvious is the addition of a smooth new ‘shield’ front grille in ‘Atlas Grey’, as well as tweaks to the front aperture blades. It also gets a body-coloured rear diffuser for ‘heightened visual impact and presence’.
The cabin remains unchanged from previous models, with an interior that boasts the Jaguar Land Rover ‘Pivi Pro’ infotainment system as standard and a 10 inch touchscreen.
A Jaguar spokesperson says:
“With a low centre of gravity, advanced suspension systems and compact, efficient electric motors on each axle, I-PACE offers an unrivalled balance of all-wheel drive performance, refinement and agility – together with impressive real-world range and exceptional comfort and day-to-day usability. The vehicle’s technology and features have continually improved using seamless software-over-the-air updates – with more still to come.”
Meanwhile Nick Collins, Executive Director of Vehicle Programmes at Jaguar, adds:
“I-PACE has always offered a comprehensive package of performance, agility, technology and everyday usability that customers expect from a Jaguar, together with the smooth, quiet and effortless driving experience that electrification offers. We’ve delivered exactly that, and now it’s our latest model to benefit from our approach of offering more curated, richer specifications.”
