Chinese manufacturer ORA is celebrating after its new, all-electric Funky Cat was named ‘best in class’ when it comes to safety.
In case the Funky Cat slinked past you when it was launched last year, it’s an EV that’s brand new to the UK market and represents a cool alternative to the likes of the Volkswagen ID.3 or the MINI Electric.
The interior is as plush as the exterior styling is eye-catching,
With a range of up to 193 miles between charges - thanks to a 48kWh battery - it can go further than competitors such as the Honda e and Mazda MX-30.
And now Euro NCAP - the independent body that crash-tests cars - has awarded the Funky Cat the ‘best-in-class Small Family Car’ title for 2022.
That’s based on how the Funky Cat performed when it comes to Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable User Protection and Safety Assist technologies
Euro NCAP commented:
“Several manufacturers are showing that Chinese brands can now compete on safety with well-established European brands. In the Small Family Car category, the ORA Funky Cat is exceptionally well equipped and, being at the top of its class, outperformed several familiar brands.”
Great Wall Motor (GWM) is the Chinese manufacturer that owns the ORA brand.
And Toby Marshall, Managing Director GWM ORA UK, added:
“We are delighted with the performance of ORA Funky Cat in the latest Euro NCAP results. It highlights the brand’s level of commitment to providing customers with a quality, safe and reliable electric vehicle that continues to perform above and beyond expectations.”
There’s plenty more besides safety to have lease customers purring over the Cat.
There’s decent power, at 171 PS, to bring a 0-62mph acceleration time of 8.3 seconds. The battery will support rapid charging at speeds of up to 80 kW, which will replenish the energy in around 40 minutes.
The Funky Cat is also really well equipped as standard - and that goes for entry-level models - coming with adaptive cruise control with lane centering, a 360 degree camera, 18 inch alloys, wireless phone charging and electric front seats.
