Hyundai Ioniq 5 N skids into view!

Like an excitable dog barrelling towards you, here comes the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N as it slips and slides across the Arctic ice.

The Ioniq 5 N is Hyundai’s performance version for the regular Ioniq 5 electric vehicle.

It’s a car that’s been promised to us for some time now but has yet to materialise.

Judging by these pics, though, the long wait might soon be over, because the Ioniq 5 N has been undergoing final testing in Sweden ahead of a full debut in July of this year.

The regular Ioniq 5 is already a cracking car in its own right. With each trim level, you can specify a 325 PS, all-wheel drive set-up with a 77 kWh battery that unlocks a near-300 mile range and a 0-62 mph time of just 5.1 seconds. Talk about having your cake and eating it.

You can lease a Hyundai Ioniq 5 with Select Car Leasing from just £535 per month*.

But the Ioniq 5 N should push the boat out even further, and while Hyundai hasn’t confirmed as much just yet, the hooligan N model should be pushing 600 PS.

There’s a whole host of other driver-oriented wizardry to enjoy with the all-wheel drive Ioniq 5 N.

There’s an ‘N Drift Optimiser’ for ‘corner-carving capability’, says Hyundai, which distributes the torque between the wheels, as well as the stiffness of the suspension, via an electronic limited slip differential to have you going sideways with abandon.

A Hyundai spokesperson adds:

“It helps drivers of all skill levels to enjoy drifting and it is designed with particular care for drivers who are entering the sport of drifting for the first time.”

The torque distribution is also honed according to the different drive modes available, which also makes it more surefooted during everyday driving when the conditions are slippery under the wheels.

The Ioniq 5 N is seen here being blatted at the Hyundai Mobis Proving ground in Arjeplog, Sweden, where conditions dip to -30 degrees C.

Till Wartenberg, vice president of N Brand Management & Motorsport sub-division at Hyundai Motor Company, adds:

“Just as our N models are honed at the sharp corners of the Nürburgring, our N models are also honed at the sharp corners and icy surfaces of our proving ground in Arjeplog, ensuring maximum performance in the most extreme winter conditions. We’re proud to demonstrate the IONIQ 5 N perfectly meets our broad performance criteria, ensuring N Brand success as our first EV production N model.”

We can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Ioniq 5 N when it careers into view - so watch this space for further updates.

In the meantime, the most affordable Hyundai ‘N’ model to lease right now is the i20 N hot-hatch (below), which can be leased from around £375 per month*.

Firstly, I’d like to extend a big thank you to Thomas Brown for making the entire car-buying experience incredibly smooth. He was more than just a salesperson he was like a counselor (haha)! Thomas was thorough, patient, and made sure every step of the process was clearly explained and easy to understand. I truly appreciated his guidance throughout. I'm fully happy with the service I received and impressed with how quickly everything was sorted. A great experience all around!
