Honda has dropped jaws after revealing two new ‘0 Series’ concept cars - the Saloon and the Space-Hub.
Both vehicles have made their debut at the CES tech show in Las Vegas.
And it’s fair to say that the prototypes move Honda’s design philosophy into a whole new realm.
The Saloon and the Space-Hub are fully electric, and built around Honda’s three-pronged principles of ‘Thin, Light, and Wise’.
The wedge-shaped, tech-packed Saloon is low-slung and ‘sporty’, according to Honda, while the eye-catching front end has a retro whiff of 1970s Dodge Charger about it, which is no bad thing at all.
The Saloon also gets steer-by-wire, sophisticated automated driving tech that’s underpinned by artificial intelligence (AI), and a human-centre user interface that’s designed to enhance the ‘joy of driving’.
The Space-Hub, on the other hand, looks to be a futuristic MPV with acres of space for passengers. You can make up your own minds about that distinctive rear end...
While these are concept models for now, Honda is confident that its ‘0 Series’ cars - of which the Saloon will be the flagship - will make the jump from drawing board to the road by the second half of the 2020s.
A company spokesperson tells us: “Honda 0 Series models will feature e-Axles with excellent power conversion efficiency and packaging, lightweight, high-density battery packs and excellent aerodynamic performance, targeting a sufficient range while minimising the battery capacity loaded on the vehicle.”
Meanwhile Honda says fast charging the battery, from 15% to 80%, will be shortened to about 10-15 minutes, while battery degradation will be limited to less than 10% after 10 years of use.
A Honda spokesperson adds: “In 2026, Honda will begin introducing the first model of the Honda 0 Series globally, starting from North America, then to Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East and South America.”
