New HiPhi X electric SUV is heading for Europe

This is the eye-catching HiPhi X - and it’s heading to Europe to compete in the luxury electric SUV market.

HiPhi is a brand owned by Human Horizons, a Chinese tech company based in Shanghai that makes premium battery-powered vehicles.

The HiPhi X is a luxury six-seater that has already been selling like hot cakes in China since its launch back in 2021.

And now HiPhi has announced plans to make inroads into Europe - beginning with the X.

The firm has been working with German vehicle testing and certification organisation TÜV SÜD to get official approvals to launch the X on European roads. TÜV SÜD tested everything from the battery management system to the radar-guided cruise control, ultimately giving a big thumbs up.

Now HiPhi says the rubber-stamping marks a ‘first step into European markets’ for the manufacturer as a whole.

So what might lease customers expect from the HiPhi X?

The first thing to note is that it’s definitely not a budget car, with prices expected to begin at around £80,000, which is Tesla Model X and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV territory.

There are programmable headlights able to project images, or even movies, as well as an intelligent automatic door system.

While less powerful versions are available in China, the X that Europe is set to get will have a 97 kWh battery and dual-motor set up, producing very healthy oomph of 543 PS.

The HiPhi X will have a range of up to 403 miles between charges and will also be able to zip from 0-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds - which is quicker than a Porsche Taycan 4S.

Every HiPhi X comes with a sumptuous cabin that boasts a 17-speaker surround sound system and a massive 19.9 inch entertainment screen.

You can also opt for an even more opulent four-seat version of the X, which then includes creature comforts like a smart fridge, screens in the rear, and adjustable ‘executive airline-style seats’, says HiPhi.

What’s more, the even more potent HiPhi Z could also be on the way to Europe - being an electric GT coupe (below) with a colossal 120 kWh and a claimed 438 miles between charges.

A HiPhi spokesperson says:

“Within four years since it was founded, Human Horizons has transformed the automotive landscape in China, with the first model – the HiPhi X – outselling premium competition. Its blend of striking design, world-class technologies and automotive engineering will soon be available to customers in Europe for the very first time. The brand’s European plans begin with HiPhi X, but soon the second flagship model, the HiPhi Z, will follow.”

Meanwhile HiPhi CTO and Co-Founder Mark Stanton adds:

“Receiving the necessary test reports from TÜV SÜD for the European vehicle approval is not only an important step forward in our carefully considered plans for launching in Europe, but it’s also a reinforcement of the meticulous standards to which HiPhi products are engineered. European road safety standards are among the strictest in the world, and the homologation by TÜV SÜD confirms that HiPhi X meets these standards.”

There's no word yet on when the HiPhi X might come to the UK, but we'll keep you posted!
