Ford unveils new Tourneo Courier and E-Tourneo Courier

Ford has thrown the sheets off its new Tourneo Courier multi-activity vehicle - which will be available to lease with either a petrol engine or fully electric drivetrain.

There are a few reasons why this particular model is big news for Ford.

Firstly, with the Fiesta being discontinued - production of the plucky little hatchback ends next month - the petrol-powered Tourneo Courier is likely to end up being THE most affordable vehicle in the Ford passenger car line-up.

While exact pricing hasn’t yet been revealed, it’s anticipated that the Tourneo Courier will be cheaper than the Ford Puma - and the soon to disappear Ecosport - making it the manufacturer’s new entry-level product.

The Tourneo Courier will be a five-seater. You’ll need to lease the larger Tourneo Connect if you want space for seven people.

And the big emphasis here is on adventure - with the Tourneo Courier being described as ‘ready to play’.

The petrol Ford Tourneo Courier will get a 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged engine with power of 125 PS - which is what you get with the entry-level Ford Puma.

The all-electric E-Tourneo Courier, meanwhile, will have power of 136 PS as well as ‘the most comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems in class’, according to Ford.

It’ll offer both 11kW AC and 100kW DC charging options. A typical 7kW overnight domestic charge from 10-100 per cent takes 7.8 hours. At a DC fast charger, lease customers can add 54 miles range in just 10 minutes and charge from 10-80 per cent in under 35 minutes.

Maximum practicality is the aim of the game with both versions of the boxy Tourneo Courier.

Amko Leenarts, Design director, Ford, Europe, tells us: “We designed E-Tourneo Courier to help customers get the most out of life – whether out with family and friends or coming home with the rear seats flipped and bikes in the back – and the exterior design expresses that ‘no-nonsense’ character. The SUV‑inspired design is rugged outside and roomy inside, while the modern EV details add exclusivity and clearly announce E‑Tourneo Courier as part of Ford’s electric revolution.”

You can expect a 12‑inch touchscreen and a fully-connected cabin.

It’ll also be available to lease in ‘Active’ trim, which unlocks rugged plastic wheel arch mouldings, roof bars, and unique seat fabrics.

The all-electric Ford E-Tourneo Courier will arrive in 2024 for lease customers.

The EcoBoost petrol‑engined Tourneo Courier will open for order this summer, with initial deliveries before the end of 2023.
