Look away now, Tesla - because the entry-level Fisker Ocean electric SUV has just been given a 288-mile range… which beats the equivalent Tesla Model Y.
In case you’re not familiar, Fisker is an American manufacturer founded by designer and entrepreneur Henrik Fisker.
And the fully-electric Fisker Ocean - an eye-catching SUV that’s dripping with Californian cool - is looking to make serious inroads into the UK leasing market in the coming months.
Three versions will ultimately be up for grabs. Range-topping ‘Extreme’ models get a range of up to 440 miles between charges, and you can order one now with Select Car Leasing from £686 per month. The mid-range ‘Ultra’ enjoys a similarly-massive 429-mile range.
But it’s the most affordable version of the Ocean, the rear-wheel drive, single motor Fisker Ocean Sport, that we’re talking about here, and which will cost from £36,000 to purchase outright.
That’s quite a lot cheaper than the entry-level Tesla Model Y, which starts at £44,990, and the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive also has a lesser range of up to 283 miles.
So, you can see why Telsa has a real fight on its hands with the new Fisker.
That 288-mile range for the Ocean has been arrived at following rigorous WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) testing, the industry benchmark.
A Fisker spokesperson tells us: “The Fisker Ocean Sport is a dynamic and beautiful gateway to the world of electric mobility. Powered by a single-motor, front-wheel-drive all-electric powertrain, the Ocean Sport offers customers an optimised balance of performance, range, and affordability.”
Lease customers can also enjoy a panoramic ‘BigSky’ glass roof, an electric tailgate, and a huge 17.1-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The ‘Sport’ model is no slouch either, coming with power of 275 hp and a 0-62mph acceleration time of 7.4 seconds.
Lease customers are expected to be able to order the Fisker Ocean Sport in the coming weeks - so watch this space.
