Skoda has revealed a mid-life facelift for two of its popular models - with the Scala hatchback enjoying ‘dynamic’ new looks and the Kamiq SUV earning a ‘rugged’ new stance.
The Scala slots between the smaller Fabia and larger Octavia hatchbacks in the Skoda range, while the Kamiq is a compact ‘City SUV’ that sits behind the Karoq and full fat Kodiaq.
Both the Scala and the Kamiq share the same Volkswagen Group ‘MQB-A0’ vehicle platform - which also underpins the VW T-Cross and SEAT Arona.
So it’s no surprise that the Scala and Kamiq siblings have a lot in common.
When this revision comes into play, both vehicles will be available in three trim levels - SE, SE L and Monte Carlo (as soon above on the Scala).
They also share engines. There’s a 1.0 litre TSI with power of 95 hp, another 1.0 litre with more power at 115 hp, and a larger 1.5 TSI unit with power of 150 hp. The latter of those two engines can be leased as either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic.
And below you can find out more about some of the new changes.
Skoda Scala
The Scala is a great family car, and practical, too, thanks to a large 467 litre boot that eclipses rivals. Those competitors include the Kia Ceed, SEAT Leon, and the ever-present VW Golf.
Now, thanks to this revision, the Scala should look even better when parked next to those challengers.
There’s a new grille, slimmed-down headlights, and revised aprons at the front and rear, which makes the Scala appear sportier and more dynamic, says Skoda.
Skoda’s ‘TOP LED Matrix’ LED lights are available as an option for the first time.
At the rear there are redesigned tail lights and a new diffuser.
The Scala Monte Carlo remains the top dog model, and features unique exterior styling, a black panoramic roof, tinted windows, and 17 inch ‘Kajam’ alloys with black aero inserts.
Skoda Kamiq
Besides the SEAT Arona and the VW T-Cross, the Skoda Kamiq also goes up against leasing alternatives like the Ford Puma and Nissan Juke.
We recently put the Kamiq through its paces, and our reviewer found it to be an ‘understated, modest, likely underrated car with an awful lot going for it’.
This refresh sees the Kamiq getting a larger and more upright grille and redesigned front and rear diffusers. Full LED Matrix headlights are an option.
Skoda says the Kamiq’s new rear apron ‘emphasises the width of the vehicle with surfaces painted in body colour and a large black area for the diffuser’.
Like the Scala, there is a choice of new wheels and nine paint finish colours for the Kamiq.
Interiors and safety for both the Scala and Kamiq
Skoda says there’s a more focused effort to use recycled fabrics in the cabin, with new eco-friendly seat covers, door panels, flooring and foot mats
The optional Climatronic system has been given a new, more intuitive control panel.
The Scala and Kamiq now feature an eight-inch Digital Display as standard, with a customisable 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit available as an option
Meanwhile they also remain among the safest vehicles in their respective classes.
Standard equipment includes Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitor, Lane Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition, while Adaptive Cruise Control and Adaptive Lane Assist are also available as options..
Speaking about both models, a Skoda spokesperson tells us: “With its refined, sharply drawn lines, the Scala looks even more dynamic, while the Kamiq’s design adjustments lend it more rugged SUV appeal.”
There’s no word yet on when the new versions might be available to lease, so watch this space for further updates.
But you can lease the current Skoda Scala with Select from £197 per month*, and a Skoda Kamiq lease begins at £259 per month*.
