Electric Maserati GranCabrio Folgore brings the ‘thunder’

Say hello to the fastest electric convertible on the market - the new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore.

Italian manufacturer Maserati is busy electrifying all of the models in its range, and we’ve already seen battery-powered ‘Folgore’ versions of the GranTurismo coupe and the Grecale SUV.

Now it’s the turn of the GranCabrio convertible, which Maserati reckons is the ‘first 100% electric convertible in the luxury segment and the fastest on the market’.

There aren’t that many electric convertibles around at the moment, so it’s a boast Maserati can be confident in making.

It’ll sit in Maserati’s range alongside the V6 petrol-engined GranCabrio.

While the petrol GranCabrio has 550 hp to play with, the GranCabrio Folgore ups the ante to a whopping 761 hp while being capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds.

That’s Porsche Taycan Turbo levels of quick. And you can also switch between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

A Maserati spokesperson gushes how the new model will play a ‘leading role in Maserati's electric era, with the same disruptive force as thunder’.

Underpinning everything is a 800V electrical system derived from Formula E and which makes use of three powerful 300-kW permanent magnet motors and a 92.5 kWh battery.

The GranCabrio also supports rapid charging at speeds of up to 270 kW, which can put up to 62 miles worth of energy back in the battery in just five minutes.

A traditional fabric roof opens in around 14 seconds while a standard-fit neck warmer allows you to travel long distances, even if the mercury drops.

Meanwhile Maserati is also promising an ‘all-round sound experience’ - despite the Folgore lacking an internal combustion engine - thanks to an audio generator that mimics the clatter of a raucous V8.

The interior is as plush as you might expect, ‘combining traditional Italian artisanship with the use of noble materials that perfectly define the elegance of the design’, says Maserati.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is priced from £185,610 to purchase outright. And if you dream of getting behind the wheel of a Maserati - or any other supercar - have a chat with the experts in our Select Car Leasing Specialist division.
