- Mazda 6e revealed at Brussels Motor Show
- Successor to the traditionally-fuelled Mazda 6
- Will rival the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4
- Set for launch in spring 2026
If you miss the old Mazda 6, worry not, because it’s making a comeback as a sleek, fully-fledged EV in 2026.
The traditionally-fuelled Mazda 6 went the way of the dodo back in 2023, much to the dismay of lease customers who’d grown to love both the Saloon and Tourer estate variants.
But you can’t keep a good car down, and the 6 has been reinvented as the Mazda 6e - as previewed here at the Brussels Motor Show.
The Mazda 6e will launch in the UK in 2026, with full pricing and spec still to be revealed.
We do know, however, that two different powertrains will be up for grabs.
One is underpinned by a 68.8 kWh battery that offers a range of up to 300 miles between trips to the plug as well as power of 258 PS, which means it can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 7.6 seconds.
The other gets a larger 80 kWh battery and prioritises range instead of power. The oomph dips to 244 PS while the range increases to a max of 345 miles.
Both powertrains are rear-wheel drive and get 320 Nm of torque, and both also support rapid 200 kW DC charging.
The Mazda 6e’s silhouette is sleek and sporty, with a low roofline and frameless doors, but because it’s a ‘fastback’ - as opposed to a traditional saloon - there’s also a practical hatchback boot at the rear.
The boot itself weighs-in at 330-litres, which isn’t enormous compared with rivals like the Tesla Model 3 or BMW i4, but there is at least an extra 70-litre ‘frunk’ at the front.
You can expect 19-inch alloys and illuminated ‘wing lights’ around the front grille that appear to ‘flutter’ when the car is charging.
The cabin will be treated to a panoramic sunroof, a floating centre console and instrument panel, a 14.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital cockpit.
And you’ll also be able to choose from familiar Mazda trim levels - Takumi and Takumi Plus - the latter of which unlocks premium tan Nappa leather.
Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “The Mazda 6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for, with a nod to the popularity of the Mazda 6 it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology and style to battery electric vehicles. And with the suspension, power steering and braking carefully calibrated by the team at Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to match European and UK preferences, I’m sure the Mazda 6e will be an electric car that delivers the engaging driver experience you’d expect from Mazda”.
The Mazda 6e due in the spring of 2026.
