DS, formerly Citroen, have announced they will be putting a highly exciting limited edition model known as the DS 3 Dark Light. You’ll have to be quick if you want one though – only 300 models will be made available by the newly-formed manufacturer.
Following the success of the DS3 and DS4 which were arguably two of Citroen’s best selling models of the last few years, the manufacturer took the decision to branch off and is now enjoying almost a golden-age. This special edition vehicle has a particularly engaging design that blends almost seamlessly into the paintwork known as ‘Perla Nera Black’ which is essentially black clad in metallic vinyl to create a highly stand-out effect. The paint is said to be extra durable and that intriguing design will survive your regular mechanical car wash or even fuel spills. It is also apparently scratch resistant as well, and much like the regular DS3, there is plenty of optional extras including LED headlights and diamond-cut alloy wheels. Those familiar with that original vehicle will know what we mean when we say the vehicle will have a trim designed similar to that of the DStyle Nav which means a clean cut dashboard, black leather seats and plenty more.
In terms of the engines, there’s a PureTech 110 Petrol serving up a fair bit of power, solid economy and generally strong all-round comfort. There’s also the addition of a fancy six-speed auto gearbox.
Attendees of the Goodwood Festival of Speed will have fond memories of this vehicle as it was received very well at the annual motor show. DS took that reception to heart and decided to put it into production – a bold decision but it’s hard to see them not shifting the 300 models they will produce, especially when you consider how quickly the DS3’s have been flying off the shelves. The special ‘Dark Light’ badging could appeal those looking to bag a truly prestigious and unique vehicle.
The DS3 Darklight is certain to cause a bit of intrigue and we hope to see a few on the roads nearby – a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle..
