Power boost for new CUPRA Formentor and Leon

Check out the snarling new CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Leon - with both cars enjoying a significant boost in power.

In case you need a refresh, the Formentor is CUPRA’s head-turning hot SUV while the Leon is available as either a hatchback or ‘Sportstourer’ estate.

And not only have the trio been treated to razor sharp new exterior styling, a new 2.0-litre petrol engine is up for grabs packing power of 333 PS.

That unit will be fitted exclusively to the Formentor and the Leon Sportstourer - not the Leon hatch - and it’ll also feature clever torque splitter tech, which shifts power between the rear wheels while cornering, and uprated six-piston Akebono brakes.

There’s no word yet on acceleration figures, but that 333 PS of shove is more than you get with cars like the VW Golf R Estate or the Porsche Macan T, so the Formentor and the Leon SportsTourer should go like the proverbial scalded cat.

Elsewhere in the Formentor and Leon range you’ll find petrol, mild hybrid, diesel and ‘eHybrid’ plug-in hybrid powertrains, the latter of which offers power of 272 PS and an electric range of up to 62 miles.

That’s significantly improved on the current plug-in hybrid engine for the Formentor and Leon, which has power of up to 245 PS and an electric range of around 35 miles.

When it comes to the exterior styling, it’s the epitome of ‘in your face’, with shark-nosed faces and aggressive triangular matrix LED lights.

CUPRA says the cabin of both the Formentor and the Leon now offers a ‘higher quality feel’ with a focus on sustainable materials, as you’ll see with the bucket seats wrapped in either recycled microfibres or environmentally conscious leather.

There’s a new digital cockpit behind the steering wheel as well as a bigger 12.9-inch infotainment system which now also comes with a retro-illuminated slider. You even get a 12-speaker sound system developed by audio experts Sennheiser Mobility.

Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA, said: “The new CUPRA Formentor and Leon are pure design obsession. Two models built to provoke strong emotions and that strengthen the extraordinary bond with our Tribe. Two models that represent what that small group of believers envisaged CUPRA could be just a few years ago.”

The new Formentor and Leon are expected to go on sale in the UK in the autumn of this year.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
