Here’s proof you don’t need to spend big to enjoy blissful motoring - because the affordable Citroen C4 and its electric e-C4 have just placed first in the annual ‘Driver Power’ survey from top news outlet Auto Express.
The Driver Power study has been running since way back in 2001 and bids to reveal the ‘car most likely to make owners happy’.
The C4 - which you can lease with Select Car Leasing from just £272 per month* - came out on top with a sensational score of 93.39% securing victory in the ‘Overall’ category.
The plucky C4 also won podium places for attributes as varied as front-seat comfort, smartphone connectivity and child-friendly features.
The Citroen C4’s closest rival and Driver Power runner-up was the Kia Sorento SUV, itself a Driver Power champion in 2020.
Third place went to the luxurious and practical Lexus RX, ahead of the value-focused but still stylish Dacia Duster in fourth place. The go-anywhere and do-anything Subaru Outback was ranked fifth.
An Auto Express spokesperson said: “With great scores across the board, the Citroen is a clear winner among owners. Champions have to perform well across multiple different Driver Power categories, and the C4 and its electric sibling, the e-C4, bagged top 10 placings in an incredible six out of ten of them. As well as raving about its quality, owners especially love the car for its smooth ride and handling, affordable MPG and running costs, strong reliability and impressive roster of easy-to-operate safety features. High ratings for seating flexibility and child-friendly features mean the Citroen is great for families, too."

The traditionally-fuelled Citroen C4 is available with either a 1.2 litre petrol engine or a frugal 1.5 litre diesel. It competes against regular hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra as well as higher-riding crossovers like the Kia XCeed.
The electric e-C4, meanwhile, rivals the Peugeot e-2008 and the Vauxhall Mokka-e, and has a range of up to 220 miles between charges.

Driver Power itself sees car owners with vehicles up to 24 months old quizzed on all aspects of their motor - including boot space, economy, ride, handling and reliability.
