- BMW Skytop revealed
- Roadster with removable roof is strictly limited to just 50 unit
- Powered by 4.4-litre V8 with 625 hp
- Expected to cost around £400,000 each.
Fancy a new roadster to add to your car collection? Check out the sumptuous new BMW Skytop.
Just 50 examples of the two-seater will be built for very discerning clients after a Skytop prototype gained a ‘rapturous response’ at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este car show earlier this summer.
It’s powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine delivering 625 hp and a 0-62 mph acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds. That powertrain is mated to an eight-speed transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.
The Skytop follows in the tyre tracks of other uber-limited run BMWs like the 3.0 CSL (unveiled in 2022) while the styling references iconic roadsters of old like the BMW 507 and BMW Z8.
The Skytop’s shark-nose and arrow shaped bonnet is very reminiscent of the BMW Z8, which hit the road in the late Nineties.
Elsewhere there are ‘Winglets’ in the door shoulders that take the place of conventional door handles, an illuminated kidney grille and slim headlights.
The roof is a removable affair with two parts that can be stowed in the luggage area while there’s also a leather-covered rollover bar behind the seats.
The cabin also features a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, full-colour head-up display, and crystal flourishes throughout the cockpit.
Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design, said: “The BMW Skytop is a truly exotic design and offers a combination of driving dynamics and elegance at the highest level. To finally be able to announce that this car will be built is like a dream come true. Thank you for the very positive response around the globe and to the passionate team that worked on the project.”
BMW hasn’t lifted the lid on the price of the Skytop, but it’s expected to command around £400,000.
