If you’re a fan of Beemers, bikes and barbecues, you’ll want to check out this very special new BMW M4.
BMW has thrown the sheets off its new M4 CS Edition VR46.
The CS, or ‘Competition Sport’, bit is what BMW uses to identify its special, limited-edition, high-performance M cars. And the ‘VR46’ tag refers to the one and only Valentino Rossi, a motorcycling legend and now a BMW M works driver.
Rossi- aka ‘The Doctor’ - will need no introduction to bike fanatics. He’s a nine-time world champion who dominated MotoGP before retiring from the competition at the end of the 2021 season. His bike number #46 was also retired from MotoGP as he bowed out.
The Italian speedster has since swapped two wheels for four and has been racing for BMW since 2023, plying his trade at the wheel of a BMW M4 GT3 for BMW M Team WRT in series including the GT World Challenge Europe and the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) – which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The road-legal new BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 has been created in Rossi’s honour. It was revealed to mark his 46th birthday and just 46 units will be built. There are two distinctive design variants: Sport and Style. Rossi was personally involved in the design process for both.
And anyone who purchases a MW M4 CS Edition VR46 also gets the chance to visit Rossi’s home at the VR46 Motor Ranch in Tavullia, Italy, where they’ll get to talk shop and have a barbecue with the main man himself.
Rossi said: “There is no other brand that has motorsport so deeply rooted in its DNA as BMW M. I am proud to be a BMW M works driver, and to share this passion. The fact that there is now a special VR46 edition, in which I was involved from the very beginning of the design process, makes me proud.”
As you might expect from a BMW CS car, there are exposed carbon surfaces galore while the cabin boasts M Carbon bucket seats clad in Merino leather upholstery.
A 3.0-litre six cylinder engine remains from the regular BMW M4, but here the max power rises from 530 hp to 550 hp, thanks to an increase in the maximum charge pressure of the two mono-scroll turbochargers and model-specific tweaks to the engine management system. There’s also a model-specific engine mounting with increased spring rates for better connection between the driver’s right foot and the car’s performance.
Acceleration from 0-62 mph goes by in 3.4 seconds while top speed is electronically limited to 187 mph.
Prices haven’t been revealed yet. But surely a BBQ with the Doctor is priceless!?
