The fully-electric Subaru Solterra is one of the best value cars you can lease right now - and THIS is why.
The Solterra is a head-turning hatchback-SUV crossover that launched last year as the Japanese manufacturer’s first ever electric vehicle.
With a range of up to 289 miles between charges, it competes with cars like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Skoda Enyaq iV and the Volkswagen ID.4.
And with a price tag that begins at £52,495 to buy outright, the Solterra is at the ‘premium’ end of the electric SUV spectrum.
Which is what makes our current special offer on the Solterra all the more compelling.
Right now you can lease the Subaru Solterra with Select Car Leasing from £310 per month*.
And that’s not for the entry level trim level, that’s for the ‘Touring’ edition that comes with goodies like larger 20-inch alloys, wireless phone charging, an uprated sound system, a fixed panoramic roof, and an RRP of £55,495.
To put that £310 per month* lease fee into context, let’s look at some other cars with similar list prices (in the mid-£50,000s).
The Tesla Model Y ‘Long Range’ would set you back £52,990 to purchase, with lease prices beginning at £515 per month* with Select.
The all-wheel drive version of the Toyota bZ4X - very much a sibling to the Subaru Solterra with the two cars having been built in conjunction with each other - costs from £52,510 to buy new and lease fees stand at around £502 per month*.
Meanwhile the Audi Q4 e-tron, in S-Line trim, costs from £53,180 to purchase and attracts a lease fee of around £519 per month*.
So, when you look at what the competition is doing, it’s easy to see how the £310-per-month* Subaru Solterra represents something of a bargain.
There are plenty of other reasons to love a Subaru Solterra lease besides the monthly fee.
Subaru is the manufacturer that brought us raucous crowd-pleasers like the Impreza WRX (below) or the Legacy Spec B.
While Subaru exited the World Rally Championship in 2008, it racked-up dozens of wins - often with the late, great Colin McRae at the wheel.
So when it comes to all-wheel drive performance, Subaru really does know what it’s doing.
The Subaru Solterra has a sophisticated, permanent all-wheel drive system as standard, and comes with power of 218 PS which means it can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 6.9 seconds. That’s not much slower than a Ford Puma ST hot hatch.
As the plastic cladding on the side of the Solterra illustrates, this is a car that can handle tough terrain. If your love of the great outdoors takes you to places that would trouble other electric cars, then a Solterra lease is the one for you.
The ‘X-Mode’ button on the Solterra also turns you into an expert off-roader, automatically adjusting things like the throttle response to help you canter up slippery slopes or to carve your way through snow.
Yet despite the Solterra’s no-nonsense credentials, it also offers comfort.
You can expect a 12.3-inch touchscreen with sat nav, heated seats, and Subaru’s ‘Safety Sense’ package, which includes adaptive cruise control. A heat pump that helps you to maximise your car's range is also standard fit, while the electric battery supports 150 kW fast charging.
And when our resident reviewer took one out for a spin, he praised the Solterra’s ‘striking’ interior, its ‘plush materials’, and a drive quality that offers ‘proper performance, handling and ride comfort’.
