Flying Spur Hybrid is ‘most efficient Bentley ever’

Demanding luxury from your lease doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune at the petrol pumps - because the Flying Spur Hybrid has been officially handed the title ‘most efficient Bentley ever’.

There are currently two electrified Bentley’s in the firm’s prestigious line-up - the Bentayga Hybrid and the Flying Spur Hybrid, the latter of which was first revealed in January this year.

And the British manufacturer isn’t messing about in its bid to go green. It aims to have a plug-in hybrid option for the entire model range by 2024, and by 2030 it wants the whole portfolio to be made up of Battery Electric Vehicles, or ‘BEVs’.

And with the Flying Spur Hybrid now available to order in Europe and the UK, Bentley is proudly boasting about just how economical it is.

A quick look at the stats and you wouldn’t really expect this huge, heavy and hyper-luxurious mile-muncher to be so frugal.

The plug-in hybrid model is powered by 2.9 litre V6 petrol engine that’s married to an advanced electric motor. They combine to deliver a hefty 544 PS of power and 750 Nm or torque. It’ll hit 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.1 seconds, all with the ‘refined serenity’ you’d associate with such a sumptuous barge.

And yet the Flying Spur Hybrid can return up to 85 miles to the gallon and has a combined range in excess of 500 miles between fill-ups and charges. That’s further than any other Bentley has been able to travel before.

The PHEV system can run using electricity alone, giving you an emissions-free range of up to 26 miles. The Flying Spur also has the lowest emissions of any Bentley, at 75g of CO2 per kilometre, which should save you money on your tax bill.

A Bentley spokesperson points out:

“The Flying Spur demonstrates that hybridisation does not compromise luxury or performance. With an unperceivable blend between the internal combustion engine and electric motor, refined serenity is on offer regardless of driving mode or style.”

Because it’s a Bentley, the Flying Spur Hybrid takes vehicular creature comforts to the next level. There’s a choice of fifteen - five standard and ten optional - different leather colours and eight different veneers, meaning it can be specced to your own exacting standards.

Stitching and emblems can also be specified in blind or contrast colours, as well as the option of contrast piping to the seat covers - reminiscent of the original Flying Spur from the 1950s.

There are also 3D leather door panels, lofted diamond quilting for the seats, and a range of more than 60 exterior colours.

The Bentley spokesperson adds:

“With retailers now able to take customer orders, the launch of the Flying Spur Hybrid is just one of the next steps for Bentley on its Beyond100 path to becoming the world’s most sustainable luxury car brand.”
