Audi RS 4 Avant celebrates 25th birthday with special edition

Audi is celebrating a quarter of a century of the RS 4 Avant with a new ‘25 Years’ special edition.

The hot RS 4 estate first throttled onto the scene in 1999, out-muscling the Audi S4 with a wider body and 2.7-litre biturbo six-cylinder engine chucking out 380 PS.

A couple of years later, in 2001, an even more raucous version of the RS 4 Avant appeared in the form of the RS4 Sport (below), which featured lower suspension, bucket seats, a sports exhaust, and a suede steering wheel.

And it’s this vehicle that the new RS 4 Avant edition 25 years takes its inspiration from.

First things first - just check out the paint scheme. It’s ‘Imola Yellow’, which is something of an Audi performance stalwart when it comes to colour shades, and it looks sensational from where we’re standing.

A 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine produces power of 470 PS and 600 Nm of torque - an increase of 20 PS compared with the standard RS 4 Avant.

The 0-62 mph acceleration time has been reduced by 0.4 of a second to 3.7 seconds, while the top speed has gone up to 186 mph.

Ceramic brakes come as standard for ‘uncompromised stopping power’, says Audi, while an RS sports exhaust system ‘generates an intense soundtrack’.

Audi’s ‘RS sports suspension pro’ set-up is also standard-fit and which features manually adjustable coilovers that allow you to dial-in the performance. The coilovers ensure that this special edition variant sits 10mm lower than the standard RS 4 Avant, and you can slam it by another 10mm on top of that if you wish.

You can expect a quattro sport differential for optimum traction while Audi says the geometry of the Audi RS 4 Avant edition 25 years has been tweaked to offer faster cornering speeds.

High performance, road-going Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres are equipped as standard, as do forged 20-inch alloys in matt palladium. But customers also get a second set of tyres - Pirelli sensorized P Zero Trofeo RS semi-slicks with matt black alloys - for when you head to your nearest racetrack.

Besides Imola Yellow, you can also order the Audi A4 Avant edition 25 years in Nardo Grey and Mythos Black hues.

In the cabin you’ll find a B&O 3D Sound System, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, and plenty of ‘RS 4 edition 25 years’ lettering.

Only 50 of the anniversary models will come to the UK and cost from £115,880 to purchase outright.

Meanwhile, in other Audi news, the German manufacturer is also launching a ‘Performance Edition’ of its RS 5 Sportback hatchback.

The RS 5 comes as standard with power of 450 PS - but this new edition dials-up the oomph to 470 PS, courtesy of the same engine as the aforementioned RS 4 Avant edition 25.

Only 10 examples of this limited-edition model will come to the UK market.
