Say hello to the all-new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport, arriving imminently with added power and a completely redesigned front end.
The Clubsport was first launched back in 2015 and represents the top dog Golf GTI, sitting just behind the all-wheel drive Golf ‘R’.
The outgoing model boasts power of 300 PS, a snarling face and an aggressive rear wing.
And VW says the inbound Golf GTI Clubsport will be ‘the most powerful Golf with front-wheel drive’ ever.
While precise details concerning performance are being kept under wraps for now, VW has been teasing the next-gen GTI Clubsport in disguised form before it takes part in a 24-hour endurance race at Germany’s Nürburgring race track.
We can see from these pics that the Clubsport is now sporting a fresh front with revamped LED headlights and an illuminated VW logo.
There’s a large spoiler at the back for maximum downforce while its 19-inch forged alloys boast a distinctive design that incorporates five oval semi-circles.
Inside the cabin you can expect a new leather sports steering and a revamped Infotainment system that’s packing artificial intelligence Chat GPT integration.
There’s also a ‘Special’ driving mode that VW says is specifically adapted to the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.
A Volkswagen spokesperson tells us: “This matches systems relevant for driving dynamics to the special track characteristics of the Nürburgring Nordschleife – in order to compensate for the undulations typical of the Nordschleife, maximum performance is achieved by means of a specific vertical setup of the DCC adaptive chassis control and a modified lateral dynamics setup of the standard Vehicle Dynamics Manager.”
The car taking part in the ADAC 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is called the ‘Golf GTI Clubsport 24h’ and while it’s based on the production model it has been enhanced by the Volkswagen Motorsport division.
That honed ‘24h’ model gets power of 348 PS and 450 Nm of torque courtesy of a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that runs on a new bioethanol fuel from technology partner Shell.
Three first-generation classic Golf GTIs also take part in the gnarly Nürburgring event as VW continues to celebrate an incredible 50 years of the irrepressible Golf hatchback.
