An all-electric new Audi Q6 e-tron is on the way - and it’s already ‘close to production’, according to the German firm.
The Q6 e-tron will slot neatly into Audi’s range of electric cars between the Q4 e-tron and the premium Q8 e-tron.
And while details concerning the Q6 e-tron are currently thin on the ground, the German manufacturer says the model represents another ‘step in the electrification and digitalisation of Audi’s model range’.
It’s pictured here with a disguised exterior being put through its paces in the ‘far north of Europe’.
This cold weather testing will be crucial in ensuring the Q6 e-tron’s battery can cope with freezing conditions - including the sort of extreme weather that Britain can throw at it.
Just like the Q4 e-tron and the Q8 e-tron, the Q6 e-tron will be available as both a traditional SUV and more swooping Sportback model.
The range between charges is likely to fall somewhere between the Q4 and Q8 e-tron models, too - with the larger of those two cars being able to travel a distance of 342 miles before you need to stop and plug in, while the battery-powered Q4 has a range of up to 328 miles.
Meanwhile Audi says it’ll introduce more than 20 new models onto the market by 2025 - more than 10 of which will be electric.
An Audi spokesperson says:
“The future Q6 e-tron model series marks the inauguration of e-mobility at the Ingolstadt headquarters. An in-house battery assembly facility underpins Audi’s commitment to electric mobility.”
In terms of rivals, the Audi Q6 e-tron will do battle with the likes of the BMW iX3, Tesla Model Y, Mercedes-Benz EQB, and the Genesis GV60.
And don’t forget that you can currently lease the electric Q4 e-tron (below) with Select from just £629 per month.
