Alfa Romeo launches hybrid Junior Ibrida

  • Alfa Romeo prepares to launch Junior Ibrida
  • Mild-hybrid sibling to Junior Elettrica EV
  • Gets 136 hp and electric-only capabilities
  • Priced from £27,895 - six grand less than the electric Junior

If you like the Alfa Romeo Junior but don’t need a full EV, you’re in luck, because the Italian firm has just launched a new hybrid ‘Ibrida’ variant of its attractive crossover.

The Alfa Romeo Junior launched in fully-electric ‘Elettrica’ form last year and quickly impressed, even making it onto the shortlist for the prestigious Car of the Year 2025 award.

Now the Junior Ibrida - a mild-hybrid that never needs to be plugged in - has entered the limelight with a punchy 136 hp powertrain and a relatively low £27,895 asking price.

It’s underpinned by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and 21 kW electric motor that’s integrated into a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

That 48-volt system adds a whack of grunt when you’re accelerating and also means the Junior Ibrida is capable of operating in pure EV modes at low speeds.

It’s a system we recently put to the test in the Fiat 600 Hybrid (read our review here) and you’ll notice it most while creeping along in stop-start queues or when trying to park.

The Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida comes loaded with kit as standard, with a list that includes 17-inch alloys, rear parking sensors, twin 10.25-inch screens, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and safety tech like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

You also get Amazon Alexa and a ChatGPT-powered voice assistant.

The Junior Ibrida should also be practical enough for most, coming with a 415-litre boot which Alfa Romeo reckons is the ‘largest in its segment’. It certainly trumps the luggage space on offer in the Jeep Avenger but falls short of the Peugeot 2008 or Ford Puma.

The Alfa Romeo Ibrida is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 8.9 seconds. That’s brisk but hardly scintillating.

If you want proper performance from your Alfa Romeo Junior, you’ll need to lease the electric Junior Elettrica Veloce, which is a saucy little hot hatch.

Power of 280 hp enables the Veloce (below) to sprint from 0-62 mph in just 6.5 seconds while you still get a range of up to 200 miles between charges.

The Veloce model also features a Torsen differential, lowered suspension and sports styling kit. You can lease one right now with Select Car Leasing.

The Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida will be available to order later this month, with prices starting from £27,895 on the road.
