That sound you hear is the noise of youngsters frantically racing to add a new poster to their bedroom walls - because AC has just announced a brand new Cobra.
AC is, of course, an historic British manufacturer that’s been around since 1901.
And in the 60s the AC Cobra - an evolution of the AC ‘Ace’ - was the car that put the Surrey-based firm on the map.
American driver and manufacturer Carroll Shelby loved them so much he began importing them to America - and slapping a whopping great Ford V8 engine under the bonnet.
Cobras have been produced on and off ever since, under a variety of corporate entities.
Now the legend lives on - in the form of the new Cobra GT Roadster, which was unveiled at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this week. Looks alright, doesn’t it!?
It’ll be available in both left and right-hand drive form and will be powered by a thunderous 5.0-litre V8, delivering up to 663 PS. The most powerful version is supercharged. Oof.
And the supercharged GT Roadster is capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, while you also get the option of a manual or automatic gearbox.
The Cobra GT features an aluminium space frame chassis and carbon-composite bodywork, as well as a bespoke interior.
David Conza, Chief Executive Officer of AC Cars, said:
"Our goal was to surpass the expectations of our esteemed clientele, who have grown accustomed to the finest in automotive luxury. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from the attendees confirms that we have well and truly exceeded those expectations. The AC Cobra GT Roadster is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence. We are delighted that customers could join us from around the world, and thank them for placing the utmost faith in us.”
The new roadster is the result of a multi-million Euro investment sustained over nearly four years. It’s significantly larger than the original AC Cobra, and designed with the ability to be a daily driver in mind.
Just 250 examples of the GT Roadster are expected to be built for worldwide markets every year, with the first year of production already allocated.
The Cobra doesn’t come cheap - with prices beginning at around £285,000.
But if you’re looking to lease a much more affordable roadster - and one that might still sneak onto a teenager’s bedroom wall - check out the ever-popular Mazda MX-5 (below), which can be leased today from just £319 per month*.
