- Abarth drops price for 600e
- Scorpionissima model dips below £40,000
- Takes the sting out of the expensive car supplement (ECS)
- New price is £39,875
In the market for a hot electric Abarth but don’t want to pay the expensive car supplement? You need to check out the revised 600e.
Abarth has shaved £2,100 off the asking price for the range-topping ‘Scorpionissima’ model, with the cost dropping from £41,975 to £39,875.
That’s a very deliberate attempt by Abarth to swerve the incoming ‘expensive car supplement’, or ECS - which is an additional tax on vehicles with a list price exceeding £40,000.
From April 2025, the supplement will add an extra £425 a year to the standard Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) over the first five years of ownership from the start of the second year. For lease customers the supplement simply gets factored into your monthly lease fee.
Up until now, electric vehicles have been exempt from the supplement - but all that changes in April when newly-registered EVs costing £40,000 or more WILL be hit with the charge.
The Abarth 600e Scorpionissima will now fall under that threshold - though you’ll still need to pay the new standard rate of VED for EVs - which is £195 per year from the second year onwards.
The entry-level Abarth 600e remains at £36,975, comfortably below the £40,000 threshold.
So what’s good about leasing the Abarth 600e in the first place?
The SUV-hatchback crossover is Abarth’s high performance take on the more sedate Fiat 600e.
The base Abarth 600e gets power of 240 hp and the ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds while the Scorpionissima model ups the power to 280 hp and shortens the 0-62 mph sprint time down to 5.85 seconds.
Both versions have 345 Nm of torque and can reach a 124-mph limited maximum speed with a battery range of up to 207 miles, depending on the tyres fitted).
The Abarth 600e Scorpionissima also gets a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential, sport brakes, and racing-derived Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres.
Rivals to the Abarth 600e include the Alfa Romeo Junior, CUPRA Born and the Smart #1.
