The long-running Renault Clio is one of the UK’s favourite superminis, having been continually reinvented and refreshed since first being launched in the 1990s.
The Clio is fun to drive, boasts great exterior styling, has a boot that’s one of the largest in its class, and enjoys a cabin so sophisticated you’d expect to find on a much more expensive vehicle.

Heavily updated and facelifted in 2023, the Clio is available in two main guises.
There’s a traditional petrol-engined hatchback - the TCe 90 - which has power of 95 hp and which will return upwards of 50 miles to the gallon.
Meanwhile the Clio can also be enjoyed as an E-Tech full hybrid model, which features a state-of-the-art, self-charging powertrain that’ll deliver close to 70 mpg. With low CO2 emissions, it might also make sense as a company car for business lease customers.
The Renault Clio E-Tech full hybrid is quick and nimble, combining power of 145 hp with agile handling that reflects its feisty French underpinnings.
The top-rung ‘Esprit Alpine’ trim level also leans heavily on Renault’s motorsports heritage, adding performance-themed styling to the exterior while also uprating the interior.
And the good news is that even entry-level versions of the Renault Clio E-Tech full hybrid get standard equipment including a 7-inch touchscreen with sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors, 16-inch alloys, active emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and a lane keeping assist system with lane departure warning.
As a rival to other compact hatchbacks like the Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 208, Toyota Yaris, and Honda Jazz, the Renault Clio takes some beating.
