The GT is the first time McLaren has ever purposely designed a model for Grand Touring, and the British firm says it marries those all-important touring attributes - including refinement and comfort - with the handling prowess and driver engagement of a fully-fledged supercar.
There’s certainly no other GT in the McLaren line-up, though you could consider the GT a sister car to the lightning-quick 720S.
In terms of the practicalities of crossing continents, the GT might only have two lavishly-styled bucket seats, but there’s plenty of leather-finished luggage space.
A powered tailgate at the rear provides access to a deck that can accommodate skis and golf clubs, as well as bags.
All in all there’s up to 570 litres of luggage space available - split between 150 in the front and 420 above the engine at the back.
By comparison, the Bentley Continental GT has a boot that measures a smaller 358 litres - so you start to realise just what the McLaren GT is really capable of.
And then there’s the power, all 620 PS of it, which comes courtesy of a 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8. Add 630Nm of torque and there’s enough performance to carry the GT from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds.
The GT also weighs just 1,530kg - which goes some way to explaining why it can hit 124 mph in 9 seconds and will also carry on to a top speed of 203 mph.
Step inside the cabin you can expect refinement with every touch. Top-of-the-range Luxe models boast everything from power adjust heated memory comfort seats, to machined and knurled aluminium and gloss black interior surrounds and brightwork.
Meanwhile choosing the ‘Practicality Pack’ unlocks a rear view camera, parking sensors all-round, and a luggage bay privacy cover.
