Nissan has brought back the Interstar name for its larger commercial van-based vehicles after a ten-year hiatus, replacing the NV400 designation.
There are few other changes to this versatile range of LCVs for 2022 beyond the comprehensive updates they received for 2020.

The Interstar is mechanically identical to Renault’s Master large van. It’s competitively priced and powerful in a hotly-contested marketplace, though it’s lacking when it comes to electrified options - for the moment, at least.
Sitting at the head of Nissan’s van range in the UK, it joins the ‘all-star’ lineup of vans including the Townstar compact van and Primastar medium van in the marque’s commercial offering. The Interstar is available in a number of formats, from panel van and crew van to box, tipper, dropside and other conversion configurations, making it amongst the most flexible of vans on the market.
The Interstar box van sports impressive load stats, with a maximum payload of 1,155kg and 22m3 of cargo space, which is ideal for hauling applications like home movers and delivery services. For cabin occupants, the Interstar carries over updates from the 2020 NV400 with lots of convenient storage and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring.
The driver’s seat comes with an adjustable tilt, lumbar support and headrest, with a folding centre armrest, ensuring comfort on longer journeys.
The Interstar packs an impressive suite of driver assistance systems too, although not all are standard across the range. Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety features include Front Park Assist, Blind Spot Warning and Side Wind Assist, and Lane Departure Alert. There are also automatic wipers and lights, Rear Park Assist, a rearview camera and Hill Start Assist.
While there are currently no hybrid or electric options, the Interstar’s range of 2.3-litre diesel engines offers power outputs ranging from 110hp to 180hp. What it doesn’t get that the Primastar does is a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Efficiency varies across the Interstar formats but 39-42mpg is listed as an average.
