Seven-seat VW ID. Buzz arrives

  • New seven-seat VW ID. Buzz LWB revealed
  • Gets 86kWh battery and range of up to 291 miles
  • Available to order later this year with prices starting at £59,545
  • Performance, twin-motor VW ID. Buzz GTX also up for grabs with power of 340 PS

Say hello to one of the UK’s most desirable new seven-seaters - the Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB long wheelbase.

The fully-electric ID. Buzz was launched last year as both a five-seat family MPV and commercial ID. Buzz Cargo van - and an elongated version has always been in the works.

Now that model, the ID. Buzz LWB, has arrived in style, being equipped with an extra row of seats, a larger 86 kWh battery and a range of up to 291 miles between charges.

ID. Buzz LWB measures 4,962 mm in length, compared to 4,712 mm for the normal wheelbase version and the sliding rear doors have also been widened.

With seven people on board and all seats in place, you still get a decent 306-litre boot - which is a bit smaller than you get with a VW Polo hatchback.

But you can also opt for the LWB ID. Buzz as a five or six-seater, and with the five-seat combo you get a massive 1,340 litres of luggage space. Fold the second and third row seats down and there’s a van-like 2,469 litres of room. As VW points out, that’s ‘perfect for carrying paragliders, bikes and surfboards’.

When the ID. Buzz LWB becomes available to lease later this year, the entry-level Life models will come as standard with 19-inch alloys, dark-tinted windows, a 12.9-inch touchscreen with sat nav, heated seats, a surround-view camera, and parking sensors. There’s safety tech such as adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.

And when it comes to plugging-in your gadgets, there are two USB-C ports in the dash, another in the front passenger area, and four in the rear.

The better-equipped ‘Life’ trim adds larger 20-inch alloys, IQ Light LED matrix headlights, power sliding doors, a power tailgate, a head-up display, and a swanky Harman Kardon Premium sound system.

Besides the ID. Buzz LWB, which is priced from £59,545 to buy outright, Volkswagen has also revealed details of the new performance ID. Buzz GTX.

This hot-MPV comes as a five-seater as standard - or with 6 or 7 seats if you'd like - and boasts power of 340 PS and the ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds - which is only a shade slower than the new VW Golf GTI.

You also get sporty exterior styling, 21-inch rims and a panoramic glass roof as standard.

Full pricing for the GTX will be released in due course.
