These are the Top 6 electric vans to enjoy right now - and they could finally tempt you away from a traditional diesel engine.
The latest stats from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that transition from the combustion engine to to zero emission vehicles continues to gather momentum.
Registrations of battery electric vans (BEVs) rose 3.5% in May to achieve a 4.2% market share – a slight improvement from last year’s 4.1%.
That’s still short of the Vehicle Emissions Trading Scheme’s target for each individual brand to hit 10% this year, so it’s clear more needs to be done to convince business operators to go green.
And could these electric van lease deals, below, be a starting point in that argument?
We’ve hand-picked a few of our favourites in the small, medium and large light commercial vehicle (LCV) categories.
The Government’s Plug-in Van Grant (PIVG) - which takes up to £5,000 off the asking price to buy a new van outright - is automatically applied to our eLCV lease rates, so you don’t need to do anything on that front.
Best small electric vans
Renault Kangoo E-Tech | Advance | £187 per month, ex VAT*
There’s a lot to love about the Renault Kangoo E-Tech, not least its eye-catching exterior styling and compact proportions.
And at this price, it could be the perfect opportunity for your firm to embrace the electric revolution.
You can expect a 45 kWh battery that unlocks a maximum range of around 186 miles while rapid 80 kW charging delivers an 80% charge in just 40 minutes.
This particular ‘L2’ model gets a 764 kg payload and 4.2 cubic metre load capacity.
And in ‘Advance’ trim, you enjoy tech like lane keep assist, heated seats and heated steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, and rear parking sensors.
Nissan Townstar EV | Acenta | £206 per month, ex VAT*
The pleasingly-styled Townstar EV runs the Renault Kangoo E-Tech (above) close in a number of areas.
Like the Kangoo, the Nissan Townstar is packing a 45 kWh battery which, in this case, provides a range of up to 177 miles between charges, just down on the Renault.
There’s a modest 403 kg payload but ample 3.3 cubic metres of load volume.
And the great thing about the Nissan Townstar is that you’re getting car-like levels of comfort for your monthly lease fee.
That includes, for this ‘Acenta’ model, an 8-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone air con, and rear parking sensors.
Best medium electric vans
Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo | Commerce | £242* per month, ex VAT*
I mean, just look at it! If you’re a business that likes to be seen by customers, and when you’ve got reputations at stake, why wouldn’t you lease one of the best-looking vans on the market right now?
There’s substance as well as style, too.
An 82 kWh battery translates to a max range of 254 miles and supports rapid charging at up to 170 kW DC, while you also get a 684 kg payload and 3.9 cubic metres of load space.
This deal is for the entry-level ‘Commerce’ trim, which features three seats up top and creature comforts like heated fronts seats and parking sensors all round.
Mercedes-Benz eVito | Progressive | £278 per month, ex VAT*
What the eVito lacks in electric range it makes up for in terms of load-lugging abilities.
A 66 kWh battery means you’ll be able to travel around 162 miles between charges, making it more at home in the urban jungle than out on the open road.
But there’s a decent 832 kg payload and large 6.0 cubic metres of cargo space with this particular ‘L2’ model.
The entry-level Progressive trim gets you 17-inch steel wheels, pre-installation points for roof loading systems, and heated door mirrors.
Best large electric vans
Ford E-Transit | L3 H2 Trend | £380 per month, ex VAT*
Nothing says ‘van’ quite like the Ford Transit, being the bigger brother to the smaller - and wildly popular - Ford Transit Custom.
The Transit has been available with a fully-electric powertrain since 2022 and it could be a lot more versatile than you might think at first glance.
This particular deal is for an extended ‘L3’ model with a higher ‘H2’ height, which gives you a hefty 1,758 kg payload and a whopping 11 cubic metres of load volume.
The electric range tops out at around 191 miles while decent power of 184 PS it’ll keep up with frantic city traffic.
Fiat E-Ducato | L3 H2 | £653 per month, ex VAT*
The electric E-Ducato enjoyed a major refresh and relaunch earlier this year.
And because Fiat has fitted its largest van with a large 110 kWh battery, you’re left with an electric range that’ll make you think twice about plumping for a diesel engine instead.
This particular model - with an extended ‘L3’ wheelbase - can travel up to 235 miles between trips to the plug, making it a serious contender against other traditionally-fuelled panel vans.
You also get creature comforts like a reversing camera and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
