Mercedes have announced the first ever pickup to join its commercial vehicle market; with the all-new X-Class joining the UK market in November 2017
The X-Class pick up will be rivalling the Volkswagen Amarok, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi L200.
“Looking at total registrations in the pick-up market each year, pickups are in strong demand and Mercedes itself estimates that the global pick-up segment will expand to the tune of 1.1million units by 2026”
Exterior design and styling
The new X-Class is basically based on the Renault-Nissan alliance models sharing some of the parts components with other pickups the Nissan Navara and Renault Alaskan. To adapt to the premium badge and luxurious feeling of a Mercedes, the X-class’s design will be based on the GLS SUV model; measuring 5.3 metres length and offering a five-seat cabin as well as a large loading bay.
The X-Class will be offered in three trims – Pure, Progressive and Power.
Interior features
Like the manufacturers hi-tech cars, the X-Class will be offered with similar functionality and features including wider selection of materials/colours, individual style packages, extensive range of accessories and electrically adjustable comfort seats. Entry level models will get a standard 5.4-inch screen which can be upgraded to 8.4-inch display screen.
Engine range:
The X-class engine range includes a 163hp X220d, 190hp X250d and 165hp petrol engine for some markets. Mercedes will bring in top of the range 258hp V6 diesel to join next summer in 2018.
The X-Class will be a heavier pick up loader and can measure & carry up to 1042kg. It will tow a 3.5 tonne load, equivalent to a three-berth horsebox and will be slightly wider than its competitors with a 1587mm load bay length.
