SsangYong has introduced a newcomer to its Musso pickup range, the Saracen+. This variant features a longer load box and revised suspension, and sits at the top of the range, above the EX, Rebel, and Saracen models.
The Saracen+ utilises the same chassis and platform as the standard double cab variants, but the new model offers a 30cm longer load bed for increased cargo capacity. The plastic-lined load area, complete with a sturdy rear tailgate, can haul larger loads, while the double cab's interior maintains its ability to comfortably seat five adults, making it an excellent all-around option for many users.
The exterior also receives an upgrade, with the Saracen+ showcasing black-finished door mirrors, beltline, and tailgate finisher. This distinguishes it visually from the rest of the range, while the addition of stylish black 18-inch alloy wheels further enhances the vehicle's road presence.
The e-XDi220 engine powers all Musso variants, delivering 202hp at 3,800rpm and maximum torque of 441Nm at 1,600–2,600rpm, paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The new Musso Saracen+ benefits from the double wishbone suspension with dual coil springs featured in the rest of the range, replacing the previous extended version's leaf spring setup. This change ensures that the Musso can continue to carry and tow significant payloads — it remains the only pickup capable of legally towing 3.5 tonnes and carrying a one-tonne load simultaneously.
SsangYong Musso Revised Range Lineup
The revised range now includes four trim levels. The entry point to the range is the short-bed model, the Musso EX. It features newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, a DAB radio, remote central locking that includes the tailgate, manual air conditioning, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.
The Musso Rebel builds on that spec, adding roof rails, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, leather-look heated and ventilated seats, a heated leather steering wheel, and black and silver side steps.
The next step up introduces a more premium-feeling pickup with the Saracen trim level. This adds a black exterior pack, new 18-inch black alloy wheels, Nappa leather seats, heated rear seats, climate control, a 9.2-inch infotainment screen, TomTom navigation, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and a host of safety technology.
The new Saracen+ model takes all that one step further, adding increased bed length and wheelbase, extra payload, ground clearance, and Saracen+ graphics.
