This is the new look Ssangyong Musso pickup - which is being treated to a style upgrade, both inside and out.
The changes were revealed in Korea, where the Musso is known as the KG Mobility Rexton Sports following the manufacturer's acquisition by the KG Group.
External updates start with the front grille, which incorporates a new octagonal design with a revised version of the current model’s horizontal beams. The pickup also sports full LED headlights, LED fog lights, and LED cornering lights, with new T-shaped taillights. Also at the back are new exhausts, while the side profile has been updated with distinctive new wheels.
Once again, as with the previous facelifted Musso that arrived in 2021, the body panels remain unchanged, and so do the vehicle's dimensions.
The most significant changes have been reserved for the interior, where the cabin has received a huge upgrade. The dashboard has been completely redesigned, with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen sitting proud on top of the centre stack, replacing the smaller, integrated screens of the previous iteration.
With the screen mounted higher on the dashboard, there is now more space below, allowing the horizontal vents to merge with the wider trim panel, giving a more premium feel to the cabin. Below is a new climate control panel with touch-sensitive buttons and USB-C outlets that replace the outdated USB-A sockets.
In front of the driver, there is another 12.3-inch screen. This feature, as seen in the current generation of Musso Saracen models, acts as a digital instrument panel which can be customised to suit the requirements of the driver.
The engine and drivetrain are expected to remain the same, so the Musso will keep its 2.2-litre diesel engine. This refined unit develops 202hp and 400Nm of torque, delivered through a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox to a part-time four-wheel drive system. Given that the engine is unchanged, the current fuel economy figure of up to 33.5mpg should remain unchanged too.
When the models were unveiled in Korea, it was notable that they were badged as KG Mobility vehicles — the name of the corporate entity that now owns the brand — although the existing SsangYong logo was in place on the grille and inside the vehicles. There hasn’t been a confirmed change of name to KG Mobility in the UK, with Kevin Griffin, managing director of SsangYong Motor UK, saying, “With regards to the company change of name, we will confirm more detail around the impact to the UK in due course.”
The revised model is expected to start production in the third quarter of the year and to be available to customers later in 2023.
While UK updates haven’t been confirmed, it’s expected that the revised model will find its way here, with deliveries starting in the first half of 2024.
