Peugeot Boxer van gets new look and new automatic gearbox

  • Update for both the diesel Peugeot Boxer and electric e-Boxer
  • Sharp new looks with tech improvements
  • New 8-speed automatic gearbox for the combustion engine panel van
  • Still a range of different configurations for lease customers to choose from

As Peugeot renews its light commercial vehicle offering, its large Boxer van gets a few extra touches, including a new front aesthetic and an upgraded interior.

The changes aren’t all cosmetic either, with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox providing, according to Peugeot, ‘an easier driving experience’ and ‘enhanced comfort’.

The new gearbox, called EAT8, is available on all models fitted with the 2.2-litre BlueHDi 140 and 180 engines. These engines conform to Light Duty (Euro 6E) and Heavy Duty (Euro VIE) technical standards, the latter allowing for heavier conversions.

There’s also a new clutch design for the Boxer, which optimises gear shifts thanks to more efficient torque management. The Blue HDi 180 engine can reach 450Nm using the new system, which is an improvement of 80Nm over the previous manual transmission, making it the best-in-class within the segment. EAT8 brings other improvements, such as a hydraulic accumulator that reduces the response time from the gearbox, allowing the vehicle to make the most of the power available and providing smoother operation of the Start & Stop system.

The electric E-Boxer hasn’t been left out of the upgrades either, with an all-new powertrain being added. Powered by a 110kWh battery, it can provide 270hp and 410Nm of torque and, according to official figures, up to 263 miles of range.

The exterior styling changes — new front bumper, grille and mirror housings — are joined by safety and tech upgrades, including keyless entry and start, electric parking brake wireless smartphone charging, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, driver fatigue alert, and automatic emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection.

A range of different configurations will still be available for customers to choose from, with two body lengths (L2 and L4) and two wheelbases (3.45m and 4.04m) for a total of four body variants with load volumes from 13–17m3.

Prices for the revised Peugeot Boxer panel van range start at £30,615 plus VAT. The optional EAT8 automatic gearbox adds a further £2,100 to the list price. Before deducting any applicable government grants or incentives, the electric E-Boxer models start at £50,535 plus VAT.
