Next gen Ford Ranger Pick-Up teased ahead of reveal

There’s a new generation of Ford Ranger on the way - and here’s a sneak peek ahead of its official reveal later this year.

new generation of Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger has been one of the nation’s most dependable workhorses for two decades now, with the pick-up truck having first hit UK roads back in 1999, having already sold by the boatload in America since 1982.

And one of the Ranger’s best qualities is the myriad forms it can take - be it normal cab, double cab, or half-way-house ‘super cab’.

The list of models currently available also runs from the sedate and sensible ‘XL’ single cab all the way through to the performance all-wheel-drive Ranger Raptor, which comes with exterior bling, monster-truck style wheels, and a gutsy 2.0 litre diesel engine chucking out power of 213 PS.

Now Ford fans can prepare themselves for the next gen Ranger, which is due to break cover later this year and which will be officially launched in 2022.

A Ford spokesperson says:

“Embracing superior off-road credentials and Ford’s dynamic driving DNA, the toughest, most capable and connected Ranger pick-up yet has been developed by Ford with the customer front of mind.
“At its core, the next-generation Ranger will be the ideal pick-up partner for work, family and play.
“We are pleased to present the highly capable next-gen Ranger in its natural habitat. Stay tuned for more updates!”

So far details about the 2022 Ranger are thin on the ground, though there are persistent rumours the pick-up will get a plug-in hybrid variant after one was spotted being tested for Ford.

We do, however, get more information from the Ranger’s publicity footage. A glossy video tells us that the Ranger has been ‘tested to the extreme’, which includes, ‘making sure everything works when it’s full of mud’.

It’s been hammered through the desert to make sure it doesn’t wilt in the heat while the Ranger has also been ‘torture tested’ on the most extreme, rocky terrain Ford could find.

Ford also tells us the 4x4 system means it’s never been better poised on snow and ice, either.

All in all, the update should ensure the Ford Ranger remains a key competitor to the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-MAX and the Nissan Navara.

Will bring you further updates as and when they arrive.
