New UK-based tech firm Helixx intends to build four mini electric commercial vehicles to provide sustainable mobility for service businesses in fast-growing, densely populated urban centres.
The vehicles will be engineered in the UK and designed to be built virtually anywhere in the world in licensed Helixx Mobility Hubs. They will be offered on a subscription basis for commercial users from $0.25 (£0.20) per hour.
These small, affordable, zero-emission vehicles will be built locally within a fully managed circular manufacturing system. Helixx believes they offer the potential to unlock opportunities for economic growth in developing cities by solving some mobility and air quality challenges.
Helixx Mobility Hubs will be located in each territory. They will help keep carbon emissions from manufacturing to a minimum whilst empowering local enterprises to make, sell and support vehicles over their entire lifecycle.
Helixx: The Range
With state-of-the-art cabins that offer a premium space for enhanced driver and passenger comfort for urban services, the Helixx range will launch with four body styles, including van and pickup options.
The Cargo model is a pint-sized panel van designed to support the growing demand for last-mile delivery fleets. The van will have 2,100 litres of cargo space and the capability to carry the majority of ISO pallets worldwide. The Truck variant is a pickup that opens the cargo area to create a load box, ideally suited for construction businesses and urban developers.
There are two passenger-carrying models, too; the Tuk and Ride models will offer urban ride-hailing solutions with either open or closed bodies.
All four vehicles in the model lineup offer a driving range suitable for a 24-hour duty cycle, and have swappable lithium iron phosphate battery packs to maximise utility time.
The UN has predicted that by 2050, 6.6 billion people will live in urban areas. This means shifting towards more efficient mobility systems is vital to support the growing population.
Steve Pegg, Helixx CEO and co-founder:
“Helixx was born to meet the challenge of transforming the quality and standard of mobility for citizens in heavily congested cities. The vehicles offered by Helixx are the key to replacing the heavily polluting combustion-powered vehicles relied upon in developing nations today.”
Helixx believes the answer lies in its Mobility Hub. The Mobility Hub can be commissioned and operated worldwide through a licensed partnership. The entire process, from the establishment of the factory and equipment installation to training staff and commercial support with local fleet operators, will be fully managed by Helixx.
Steve Pegg, Helixx CEO and co-founder:
“For the past four years, we have researched the market to ensure the creation of sustainable zero-emission vehicles that meet the demands and needs of the world’s developing economies. But arguably more importantly, we tasked ourselves to find a solution to how such vehicles could be deployed wherever they are needed in the world with maximum speed and energy efficiency and minimum cost and complexity.”
Following successful testing of the concept hub in Oxfordshire, in partnership with Siemens, Helixx will set up more pilot hubs in the UK and Singapore. The company is also in discussion with customers in the Asia Pacific region, with India, MENA, and South America to follow.
