Mercedes-AMG has updated its range of performance A-Class cars - and there’s a significant boost in power for the A35 4MATIC.
Earlier this month we revealed how Mercedes-Benz had given its A-Class and B-Class cars a minor tweak for the ‘23 model year.
As part of that update, the performance versions of the A-Class - the Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC and the A45 S 4MATIC+ - were also revised.
And it’s now been revealed that both the hatchback and saloon versions of the A35 4MATIC benefit from 48-volt mild-hybrid technology for the first time, which has taken power from 302 hp to 306 hp.
Maximum torque from the 2.0 petrol engine sits at 400 Nm, and the all-wheel drive A35 4MATIC hatch will accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds.
Arguably the A35 4MATIC’s biggest rival is the Audi S3, which is also available as a hatch or saloon.
How do the two adversaries stack-up?
Well, this new update for the A35 actually brings it closer to the S3 - as both now have identical power outputs. The S3 is, however, slightly slower off the mark than the Mercedes-AMG model, sprinting from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds.
Price wise, the A35 4MATIC hatch costs from £45,930 while the Audi S3 hatch will set you back 46,245 in range-topping ‘Vorsprung’ trim.
The A35 4MATIC’s more powerful sibling, the A45 S 4MATIC+, generates 421 hp and 500 Nm of torque and now enjoys a refreshed interior, including the latest MBUX infotainment system and 10.25-inch driver displays.
The AMG Track Pace is also standard on the A45 S 4MATIC+, which monitors your performance when you’re pushing the limits on the circuit.
A refreshed exterior design includes new-look front headlamps, as well as an AMG specific radiator design.
Inside, the A45 and A35 both benefit from the Mercedes-AMG Performance steering wheel and AMG performance seats.
And both the A45 and A35 feature an AMG ‘SPEEDSHIFT’ DCT 8-speed gearbox.
The A45 S 4MATIC+ costs from £63,140.
