Top 6 cars arriving this summer

Here’s our pick of the top 6 cars that’ll be arriving this summer - and there’s plenty for lease customers to get excited about.

It’s been a thrilling start to summer so far, with models like the new MG4 EV XPOWER electric hot hatch and the battery-powered Vauxhall Astra Electric both now available to order to lease.

But there’s more in store.

Just as summer holiday season ramps up, the coming weeks will see a whole host of motoring milestones, from brand new models being revealed for the first time, to eagerly-anticipated new lease vehicles having their order books thrown open.

And here’s what you can look forward to:

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

It’s fair to say the Ioniq 5 has been a smash hit since it was first launched in 2021, winning scores of industry awards and also being crowned World Car of the Year in 2022.

How does Hyundai plan to improve on that winning formula?

Give it more power and performance, that’s how!

The Ioniq 5 N is, according to Hyundai, a ‘corner rascal’ with ‘racetrack capability’ whilst also being an ‘everyday sportscar’.

It’ll enjoy its world premiere on July 13 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Precise details will be revealed at that point, but you can expect power of around 600 hp and razor-sharp handling.

There are various drive modes designed specifically for the race circuit, including ‘Drag’, ‘Track’ N Race’, ‘Sprint’ and ‘Endurance’.

And the souped-up Ioniq 5 also boasts an ‘N Active Sound+’ system to simulate the bangs and pops from a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine.

It’s a big car for Hyundai, so watch this space.

Ford Mustang

It’s fair to say we’re excited about this one!

Yes, we love modern electrified powertrains and all of the money-saving fuel economy they bring. But… there’s still a place in our hearts for a roaring V8.

The overhauled Mustang was first revealed in September last year, and UK order books are expected to open later this summer.

While the V8 under the bonnet remains firmly in place, the styling is radically different, with a more chiselled exterior and shortened rear overhang.

The Convertible Mustang has been re-engineered to offer more space and the boot can now swallow two golf bags.

Meanwhile there’s a mean and moody new performance model - the ‘Dark Hose’. This particular pony gets more power, tauter suspension, the option of a six-speed TREMEC manual transmission, and improved styling.

Kia EV9

The electric EV9 is a large, seven-seat, luxury SUV from Kia that made its full debut back in March this year. And with pricing and spec now confirmed, the EV9 will be available to order for lease customers in the coming days, with first deliveries arriving early next year.

What can you expect with the EV9?

You’ve got a choice of three trim levels - the base ‘Air’, through to ‘GT-Line’ and range-topping ‘GT-Line S’. Prices to buy outright begin at £64,995, so you can see it’s competing at the top end of the market, alongside the BMW iX and the Audi Q8 e-tron.

Standard on all models is a three-screen dashboard with 12.3 inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated front seats, a vehicle-to-load system (V2L) for charging or powering external devices, semi-autonomous ‘Highway Driving Assist 2 with Hands-on Detection’ for effortless motorway schlepps, and a 360 degree camera.

The most expensive models add extras like all-wheel drive, larger 21 inch alloys, a sliding sunroof, and an uprated sound system.

Meanwhile all versions get a range of up to 300 miles between charges.

Honda e:Ny1 SUV

The e:Ny1 is a compact SUV that’s also Honda’s second-ever fully electric vehicle, besides the Honda e hatchback.

It gets a range of up to 256 miles between charges and when order books open later this summer, the e:Ny1 will compete with lease vehicles like the Jeep Avenger and the Kia Niro EV.

It’s got decent amounts of power, with 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque, which is on a par with the Cupra Born hot hatch and the Renault Megane E-Tech electric.

DC fast-charging should also let you replenish the battery from 10 to 80% in just 45 minutes.

Honda knows how to do interiors, and is promising us a ‘remarkable’ cabin inside the e:Ny1 that includes a huge 15.1-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Alongside the e:Ny1, Honda is also preparing to launch the brand new ZR-V, an attractive self-charging hybrid, so there’s plenty going on at the Japanese firm.

Volkswagen Amarok

You can’t keep a good pickup down - which is why the VW Amarok is returning to the leasing market after a three year hiatus.

Order books opened in June of this year and first deliveries are now expected ‘late summer’, according to VW.

This new and improved Amarok has been created thanks to Volkswagen’s partnership with Ford, so you can expect the Amarok to share much in common with the Ford Ranger pickup.

Yet VW is confident the Amarok has its own essential DNA, and when our reviewer tested it in recent weeks, he called it the ‘the best pickup on the market’.

There’s a host of options available when it comes to trim levels, including the silky smooth V6, which features a 3.0 litre diesel engine with power of 240 hp.

You also get a decent payload of up to 1,160kg.

Fisker Ocean

The Fisker Ocean promises to be one of the hippest electric SUVs anywhere on the leasing market, with California-cool styling and brag–worthy eco credentials.

Right-hand drive versions of the Fisker Ocean are expected to be available to order imminently, with deliveries by the end of the year or early next.

Before we even get into what the car is like, sustainability is a big thing for Fisker.

The Ocean is being built at a carbon-neutral facility in Graz, Austria, and more than 50 kg of reused materials goes into each car.

Entry level models will have power of 278 PS as well as a 273-mile range, while the all-wheel drive, range-topping Fisker Ocean Extreme really ups the ante.

It gets power of 558 PS, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it acceleration time, and a range of up to 440 miles between charges.

And here’s the really good bit - entry-level models will be priced from £34,990, which is Volkswagen ID.3 money and means the Fisker Ocean should be affordable to lots of different lease customers.
