It feels like it’s just a matter of time before the Zombie Apocalypse arrives, and Isuzu has revealed a special D-Max pickup truck that’s designed to survive it.
Following on from the launch of the D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 earlier in the year, Isuzu has taken the extreme pickup and created Basecamp, an expedition-ready vehicle for the 2022 Commercial Vehicle Show.
The Basecamp truck is equipped with a lightweight iKamper SkyCamp Mini 3.0 rooftop tent, featuring a hard shell with quilted insulation, an easy access ladder, Skyview window and iKamper’s signature World Map. It’s mounted to a black aluminium Gearmate hardtop canopy, with solid gullwing side and rear access doors.
An ARB Outback Solutions modular roller drawer system fills the load box providing storage for luggage and incorporating a fridge and a slide-out kitchen unit. This includes a three-burner gas stove and a 12-litre collapsible sink, allowing you to dine al fresco wherever you are.
A roof-mounted ARB Base Rack system incorporates a front-facing light bar and a bespoke clamp, mount and bracket system for the storage of a gas bottle, water container, fuel containers and recovery boards. A black ‘A’ bar with three spotlights is fitted at the front of the D-Max AT35 too, along with an Isuzu front grille and bonnet protector.
Black sidebars with integrated steps, side window visors and a bespoke ‘Inspired by Extremes’ decal kit adorn the side of the On the side of the AT35 Basecamp. The apocalypse survival/expedition vehicle is finished with 17-inch black Arctic Trucks alloy wheels, fitted with 35-inch LT315/70 R17 mud-terrain tyres.
Brian Wheeler, PR & product manager at Isuzu UK, said:
“With the recent launch of the new Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35, we wanted to display a special vehicle at the CV Show that represented what this new model is all about. Built to conquer all types of landscapes and be a true adventure vehicle, Basecamp demonstrates the aspirational nature of the AT35 and really does embrace everything you need, including the kitchen sink!”
While the Isuzu D-Max is available to lease from around £250 a month, the company says there are no plans to put the Basecmap version into production. However, as most of the vehicle is built using off-the0shelf products, it should be easy enough to convert your own pickup to a similar spec.
