Fully-electric Maxus T90EV pickup priced at less than £50k

The arrival of the Maxus T90EV pickup truck means that an all-electric double-cab will be available in the UK for the first time, with a price tag of under £50,000 before VAT. First deliveries are expected early in 2023.

Maxus says demand is high, with more than a thousand orders received following its reveal at April’s CV Show, despite a lack of firm specifications or pricing details.

As the vehicle gets closer to UK roads, Maxus has confirmed that buyers can look forward to a pickup truck fitted with a stainless steel sports bar, side steps and 17-inch alloy wheels, with automatically operated halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights.

Inside, the T90EV is fitted with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, electrically adjustable front seats, manual air conditioning and a reversing camera.

Power comes from a 204hp electric motor, driving the rear wheels - there’s no four-wheel-drive option. Under the floor of the T90EV is an 88.55kWh battery pack that, according to official WLTP testing, is good for a range of 220 miles. Not sure how that translates? Take a look at our guide explaining what kWh and kW really mean.

The truck can be recharged at rates of up to 80kW, meaning a top-up from 20% to 80% - enough to add another 132 miles of range - can be carried out in around 45 minutes. Alongside the rapid CCS plug, a Type 2 connection allows charging at lower rate facilities, such as on a home charger, where the same level of charge will take a little over seven hours.

While the lack of four-wheel drive means the Maxus T90EV won’t be tackling the toughest of terrain, ground clearance of 190mm and a wading depth of 550mm means it should cope with light off-roading duties.

Payload and Towing Ability

The initial reveal of the T90EV had some concerns, with the payload capacity expected to be limited to around 740kg. Happily, Maxus has worked on the truck and found some extra capability. Now able to carry a full one-tonne payload, business owners will be looking at the VAT element that’s now reclaimable.

Towing limits are lower than those of its diesel-powered rivals, with a maximum of 1,500kg able to be pulled. Combined with a kerb weight of 2,300kg and a gross train weight of 4,050kg, it won’t be possible to fully load the cargo box and trailer at the same time.

All but identical in size to the cargo box of an Isuzu D-Max, the load area of the T90EV measures 1,485mm long by 1,510mm wide, with a sidewall depth of 590mm.
