The Ford Ranger was crowned as the best-selling pickup truck in the UK for 2023.
Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealing that the model reached 18,679 registrations throughout the year. That’s a rise of 11% over the previous year and gives Ford a 45.5% share of the UK’s total pickup market.
And you can lease the Ford Ranger with Select Van Leasing from just £313 per month, ex VAT*.
Sales of the Ranger may have increased, but the manufacturer’s overall market share is down from 2022’s high of 56.9%, thanks to a surge in sales from Isuzu and Toyota, alongside Volkswagen’s Amarok — a pickup based on the Ranger itself.
The boost in Ranger sales is partly thanks to the expansion of the line-up — Tremor, Wildtrak X and Platinum were added in the year, helping to increase popularity among buyers. A plug-in hybrid model will also join the range in 2025.
The Ford Ranger not only achieved commercial success in 2023 but also picked up the title of International Pick-up of the Year in November, albeit shared with its Volkswagen Amarok sibling.
Ford has topped charts elsewhere, too; the Transit Custom took the title of the best-selling van, with its larger Transit sibling coming in second. The Transit name continues its run as the UK’s favourite van — 58 years and counting.
Ford’s popularity also remains strong in the passenger car sector, with the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and Vauxhall Corsa being overtaken by Ford’s Puma compact SUV, which took the top spot.
Discussing the broader LCV market, Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, commented: “Rising demand for new vans in every month of 2023 – along with record uptake of battery electric vans – is positive news for the UK, given the vital role of these vehicles in keeping businesses and the economy moving. Demand for new vans is also essential for decarbonisation and, as the UK’s ambitious mandate for electric van sales comes into effect, every lever must be pulled to make the switch accessible for fleets in every region. If 2024 is to be the year of the electric van, investment in charge point infrastructure is mission-critical – bringing with it the successful green transition and economic growth the nation needs.”
