A respected member of the Select Car Leasing family has raised more than a thousand pounds for charity after experiencing homelessness for a night.
The YMCA’s ‘Sleep Easy’ initiative, first launched in 2010, sees hardy participants spending one night sleeping somewhere other than their bed to raise crucial funds to help address the root causes of youth homelessness.
Richard Wileman, Principal at the Select Car Leasing East Midlands Office in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, joined his local Sleepout at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium in support of YMCA Burton.
After taking shelter in just a cardboard box for the evening, Richard has raised more than £1,050. You can still donate here.
He said: “As President of Burton & District Chamber of Commerce I am delighted to support the YMCA Sleepout 2024.
“It was cold and misty when we arrived at the Pirelli Stadium but Billy Brewer, the club’s mascot, was there to meet me!
“Box in hand, we set up camp under the stands along with 110 other hardy souls, sleeping out from around 10pm to 6am.
“Perhaps unsurprisingly, a cardboard box didn’t provide the best night's sleep - but it was well worth it for the cause.
“So far we have raised £1,050.00 for the YMCA, which we know will be used well for all of the people they support in Burton upon Trent.”
The YMCA says around 58,870 young people (16-24-year-olds) are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
