Commercial appeal with updated Dacia Duster

The Dacia Duster Commercial has been refreshed and updated, bringing it into line with the firm’s latest brand identity and simplified model range.

The updated white grille is emblazoned with the Dacia Link emblem - a feature of the new brand identity. The letters ‘D’ and ‘C’ are interlocked, like the links of a chain, to reflect the ‘robust simplicity’ of the new design.

The emblem is accentuated by new Y-shaped LED running lights, and appears not only in the centre of the grille but also on the vehicle’s rear panel and steering wheel.

Some elements remain unchanged, such as the flared wheel arches. They are now matched with durable front and rear skid plates, which give a nod to the rugged roots of the Duster Commercial.

Contrasting black roof bars, 210mm of ground clearance and a wading depth of 450mm all combine to enhance the Duster Commercial’s overall practicality.

Duster Commercial Cargo Capability

The Commercial is based on the Dacia Duster SUV, adapted into an N1 commercial version. This provides a flat load space in the rear, offering up to 1,623-litre of cargo capacity, with a payload limit of up to 503kg.

During the factory-based conversion, technicians replace the rear seats of the Duster with a completely flat wooden load floor covered with a hard-wearing surface. The load area is separated from the front passenger compartment by a sturdy mesh bulkhead, while a series of lashing eyes make securing loose cargo easy.

The contents of the cargo bay are shielded from prying eyes by a full-length removable load cover, as well as an opaque film applied to the fixed rear windows.

The 1,792mm long load area is easily accessible, thanks to the absence of a stepped load sill. Bulky loads can be moved too, with a load width of 1,247mm and a floor-to-ceiling height on the 4x2 models providing plenty of room.

Proven Powertrains

What hasn’t changed during the update is the choice of engines, meaning that the previous petrol and diesel engines remain, with outputs from 90hp to 150hp, and a selection of two- or four-wheel-drive. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but a six-speed automatic is available with the TCe 150 engine.

There are two petrol options available; firstly, the turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0-litre TCe 90, delivering 90hp and 160Nm of torque, and returning fuel economy of up to 45.6mpg according to WLTP testing.

Secondly, there is a more powerful TCe 150 engine that provides 150hp. It is coupled with a six-speed dual-clutch EDC transmission, enhancing performance to give a 0-62mph time of 9.7 seconds, while still returning the same 45.6mpg economy as its lower-powered sibling.

The Blue dCi 115 is a diesel model returning 115hp, with either two- or four-wheel-drive. The front-wheel-drive model offers fuel economy of 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions of just 127g/km. The 4x4 version, while off-road capable, suffers a little in terms of economy, but still achieves 53.3mpg, with CO2 emissions rising to 139g/km.

Simplified Specification

The simplified Duster Commercial range now supports just two trim levels; Essential and Expression.

The Essential features 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, electric front windows, cruise control with speed limiter, seven-function on-board computer, height- and reach-adjustable steering wheel with backlit controls, DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity and a USB connection.

The higher-specification Expression upgrades to 16-inch alloy wheels, and adds front fog lights, heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors, a rearview camera with parking sensors, and a centre differential lock on 4x4 models.

The interior sees upgrades too, with a leather-covered steering wheel, a centre console with a driver’s armrest, and an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

First deliveries are due in the last quarter of 2022.

With my previous lease contract coming to an end, I had to find a new lease deal at a time when a lot of my time was taken up with treatment of a couple of health issues. I needn't have worried as Select Car Leasing did all the work to find the car model that met all my requirements at a cost that was well within my budget. They handled all the discussions with the lease finance company, arranged the delivery time I wanted, and quickly resolved the couple of technical snags I encountered when signing off the e-contract documents. The whole process was quick and easy and I can't think of any part of their service that could have been delivered more effectively or quickly.
