Toyota has completed its electrified van line-up with the arrival of the incoming Proace Max Electric.
This, the largest van in its range, will join the Proace City Electric compact van and the mid-sized Proace Electric. There is also a mild-hybrid Hilux on the way too, so each of Toyota’s commercial vehicles will soon be available to customers as an electrified model.
As well as the announcement of the new all-electric Proace Max, the Proace and Proace City will also be receiving a refresh in the wake of the news that Stellantis group — the company that builds vans on behalf of Toyota — is refreshing its entire LCV offering.
The Proace Max will built around the same platform as the Vauxhall Movano and Citroen Relay. Toyota will be offering plenty of choices when it comes to configuration, with the new van available in two wheelbase lengths, two height options, and three body lengths. The largest configuration of the Proace Max Electric will provide users with a cargo volume of 17m3, giving Toyota the best-in-class accolade.
There will be easy access to that class-leading load area via the full-height rear doors, which will swing open to 270 degrees. This will give access for forklifts to load up to five Euro pallets with ease into the space. There will also be side door access, wide enough to load or unload a pallet kerbside, making drop-offs and collections simple.
With government rules allowing alternatively-fuelled vans to increase gross vehicle weights to 4.25 tonnes, the payload limits should be up to 1,500kg.
The 110kWh battery pack will power the electric motor, giving the Proace Max Electric an expected range of around 260 miles. The rapid charge facility will mean the depleted battery can charge from empty to 80% in less than an hour.
Toyota will release further details about the offering, and a first look at the vehicle, later in the month, but has confirmed that the Proace Max will be available in panel van, chassis, platform and crew cab layouts.
With near-identical rivals from Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot and Vauxhall, differentiating the Proace Max might be difficult, but Toyota has a couple of aces up its sleeve. Aside from a well-respected Toyota Professional dealer network dedicated to LCV care, the brand’s Toyota Relax warranty package could see vans covered against failures for as long as 10 years, giving added peace of mind to customers.
