Don’t think your Ford Ranger Raptor has enough power? American hypercar manufacturer Hennessey has fixed that with the introduction of the VelociRaptor 500 Ranger.
Based on the standard Ford Ranger Raptor, the VelociRaptor 500 has an enhanced version of the same 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, now producing 507hp and 745Nm of torque. A new high-flow air induction system, a larger front-mounted intercooler and an engine management software upgrade fitted to the VelociRaptor 500 make it the most powerful pickup available in the UK.
While some things have been upgraded, there are also elements which stay the same; the Ford Ranger Raptor and VelociRaptor 500 both use the same 10-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive system with locking front and rear differentials, and each has eight different driving modes that provide the control for that power in all terrain.
The upgraded Raptor suspension, with Fox 2.5-inch ‘Live Valve’ internal bypass shock absorbers, new upper and lower control arms, extended travel suspension and independent rear suspension, is also common to both vehicles. An active exhaust system allows drivers to switch between quiet, normal and off-road-only Baja exhaust notes.
There might be plenty in common under the skin, but what sets the VelociRaptor apart from the Ford Ranger Raptor, leaving onlookers with no doubt that this is no ordinary pickup, are the custom VelociRaptor bumpers at the front and rear, LED off-road lights, unique Hennessey 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, 35-inch off-road tires, and 'VelociRaptor 500' badging. Inside, the Hennessey embroidered head restraints, all-weather floor mats and build number plate further set the VelociRaptor 500 apart.
“The VelociRaptor 500 Ranger is an excellent choice for the pickup enthusiast who doesn't need the capacity of our full-size VelociRaptor 600 F-150,” explained company founder and CEO John Hennessey. “The midsize pickup is incredibly capable and very agile… it's actually lighter than the Bronco SUV! In addition, our 500-horsepower upgrade will noticeably improve low-end torque, and it's got a lot more power for those who like to really push their trucks in mud, sand, or on the open road."
Available from authorised Ford retailers or directly from Hennessey, The Hennessey VelociRaptor 500 will set you back $24,950 (£19,150/€22,400), excluding the base Ford Ranger Raptor. International shipping is expected to begin by the end of the year. Production of the VelociRaptor 500 will be limited to 200 units in 2024.
