Dacia unveils the budget-busting £15k Spring Cargo electric van

Dacia has long been known for its affordable cars, and is now launching a budget-friendly electric van for the light commercial vehicle sector with its all-new Spring Cargo.

Dacia Spring Cargo 2024

Priced at £14,995 plus VAT, this compact van offers a compact but practical solution to budget-conscious customers looking for a zero-emissions option for those smaller urban deliveries.

Dacia has re-jigged its Spring electric car to convert it neatly to a van, removing the rear seats and adding a mesh bulkhead to create a contained cargo compartment. The N1-classified Spring Cargo offers a payload of 370kg and a cargo volume of 1,085 litres within the 3.7 metre-long vehicle. The cargo area can be accessed via the tailgate or the rear doors, making it a practical option for smaller deliveries. The tight turning circle and petite proportions make it handy for nipping around city streets.

According to WLTP figures, drivers can expect to see up to 186 miles of range for urban driving and 140 miles on a mixed cycle, from the 65hp electric motor and 26.8kWh battery. This means that last-mile deliveries and short city drives will pose no problem to the Spring Cargo. The battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in around 45 minutes, with fast charging available up to a maximum of 34kW.

The outside of the Cargo Spring is only available in Polar White, but the list of standard equipment inside isn’t too shabby. There’s a 10-inch display with Media Nav Live and smartphone replication, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also manual air conditioning, remote central locking, electric windows, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. Parking aids, including front and rear sensors and a reversing camera, are also fitted as standard.

The van also has bi-directional vehicle-to-load capability, allowing users to power external 240v devices from the main drive battery, making it handy for businesses using tools or accessories at job sites.

Orders for the Dacia Spring Cargo can be taken now, with the first deliveries to customers expected in December. It’s priced at £14,995 plus VAT but is eligible for the government’s plug-in van grant (PiVG), which currently reduces the price tag by £2,500.

Dacia also promises business contract hire rates from £149 plus VAT a month on a three-year contract, after the PiVG and an initial payment of £894.

A really professional and amazing experience from beginning to end. I feel I got a great deal on the car and good options available in terms of spec, not just a standard model. Sam was amazing throughout the process, although there were some challenges along the way, Sam was excellent in terms of follow up and communication, and went above and beyond to get the car ordered and delivered. Thank you select team.
